Intolerance on the rise

Fascism has emerged as the favourite word of the Congress-led opposition as they time and again use the word ‘fascism’ in their bid to discredit the Modi government. It seems that most of the Congress leaders have no idea about the meaning of the word fascism as Congress has always been a champion of fascism and the recent events that have taken place in Maharashtra further corroborate the fact. All hell broke loose when a Professor criticised Rahul Gandhi for his distasteful remarks against Veer Savarkar.

Senior professor Yogesh Soman, who serves as the Director of Academy of Theatre Arts in Mumbai had to be sent on compulsory leave after protesting against Rahul Gandhi’s comment against Veer Savarkar. What’s worse is the fact that the Indian National Congress has brazened it out under the garb of ‘cleansing’ Maharashtra of such elements.

In what can be seen as a brazen display of fascism, Maharashtra Congress spokesperson said: “Several inefficient persons with RSS ideology & background holding different posts in the education system. Action against Mumbai University faculty member Yogesh Soman not intolerance but cleansing education system of such elements.”

Yes, only a Congress leader can use the word ‘cleansing’ and escape without consequences. While there will be no prime time debates over such a crass comment, it doesn’t change the fact that Maharashtra is witnessing high amounts of intolerance. It was recently reported that Shiv Sena goons had assaulted a common citizen in Mumbai’s Wadala for slamming Uddhav’s decision to equate action against Jamia protesters with the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Following this, around 25-30 Shiv Sena workers thrashed him and tonsured his head. After he reportedly went to the police station to report a complaint, the cops first prepared a report, but then typed a new letter and asked him to compromise.

Shiv Sena blinded by the lust for the Chief Minister’s chair has become spineless as despite being in power and to quote Shiv Sena motormouth, having a ‘Shiv Sena CM’, the party has failed to protect those who stand up for their shared ideology. For years, the Shiv Sena has revered Veer Savarkar and fought against those who chose to insult him. Now not only are they in power with the Congress who time and again has humiliated Savarkar with Uddhav remaining a mere bystander, they are now punishing those who speak up for Veer Savarkar. To the best of my knowledge, hardly any party has ever witnessed such a huge fall from grace.

More importantly, if such a thing happened in JNU or AMU all hell would have broken loose. However, designated fascists remain excruciatingly tolerant, while the Congress gets to business unabashedly as soon as it comes to power.
