Mohammad Luqman and Gopal: 2 similar cases, 2 extremely different reactions from the media

There was absolutely no outrage over Luqman

Gopal Sharma

The anti CAA protests show no signs of relenting. Having been exposed on all counts, those fuelling the agitations have now found fodder in the Jamia shooting incident that took place on Thursday, when a man identified as Gopal Sharma opened fire on an anti CAA rally, purportedly injuring a Jamia student.

In a video of the incident that went viral, a man, who has now claimed to be a minor, can be seen waving his country made pistol, even as a barrage of media-persons and cameramen follow him closely and relish a perfect video shoot that would later go into wide circulation, including in foreign media so as to grant a new lease of life to the anti CAA agitations.

The incident has now been blown out of proportions by both local and Western mainstream media. They are trying to make a Godse out of Gopal Sharma. And the usual suspects have once again raised the false flag of Hindu terror.

Others have now started blaming Union Minister Anurag Thakur and other such leaders for the shooting incident. Thakur’s recent “Desh ke gaddaron” statement is being blamed for the shooting incident. Meanwhile, the man has claimed to be a minor.

Social media trends like #RamBhakt are being run on Twitter, with the clear object of taking up the Hindutva terror bogey. The leftist ecosystem seems to have found a perfect opportunity to pursue their agenda out of the Jamia incident.

While what seems like an incident of an unstable man, waving a country-made pistol has led to the media outlets and the entire liberal gang raising the ‘Hindu terror’ bogey, the same ecosystem had actually gone quiet in a similar incident not very long ago.

While the Thursday Jamia shooting incident made headlines, another incident had taken momentary attention of the media only a few days ago, when a man was seen brandishing a pistol at the Shaheen Bagh protests site, allegedly asking the protesters to vacate the road or ‘get ready to die’.

The protester was however, overpowered and driven off. The liberal ecosystem and the mainstream media had gone into a frenzy even at that time. Sreenivasan Jain, infamous for his propaganda journalism, had tried to blame BJP MP Anurag Thakur for the same as he tweeted, “A minister leads chants of ‘goli maaro saalon ko’. The next day, men with guns turn up at Shaheen Bagh. Hate speech has consequences.”

However, the leftist ecosystem went quiet after murky details emerged about the person who was brandishing pistol at the protest site. The vicious propaganda that had started following the incident was busted by Times Now. It was revealed that the gun-wielding man, whose name is Mohammad Luqman Chaudhary, is a real estate agent who resides in the same location as the site of protests, in Abul Fazal Enclave.

The agony of the leftist media aggravated further when Times Now tweeted, “Twist to the Shaheen Bagh protest. A man with a gun was apprehended at the protest site. The gunman has reportedly been found linked to an AAP leader & the leader has denied the link.”

As soon as murky and damaging antecedents of the man brandishing a gun at Shaheen Bagh came out in the open, the anti-CAA lobby simply decided to bury the incident under the carpet. Luqman’s adventurism was of no real use to those opposing the CAA.

There is no real difference between Gopal and Luqman, while the former opened fire at an anti CAA rally, injuring a Jamia student, the latter had entered a protest site with a number of women and children, potentially endangering their lives. Why the media chose to downplay the Shaheen Bagh incident but still outraged about the Jamia shooting incident, is essentially for the mainstream media to explain.

For the CAA opposers, Gopal Sharma is a reincarnation of Nathuram Godse. They are now making every possible attempt to argue how India has been taken over by Hindu terrorism. However, Luqman brandishing his gun at the Shaheen Bagh protest site seems more like a non-issue for the same set of propagandists.

It is clear that for the liberal ecosystem, it is never about ethics or genuine public concerns. They exaggerate those issues that get them political mileage, but simply downolay those incidents that do not fit in their narrative.
