Seasonal Deshbhakt?

Akshay Kumar FIR Nirma

Akshay Kumar, the seasonal deshbhakt of Bollywood, could get into serious trouble for a controversial ad of Nirma washing power, in which he allegedly mocks Maratha warriors and culture. The ad, released on 3rd January, shows a Maratha king who has returned victorious from a battle, and is being welcomed by the queen. The queen is happy with the fact that the king has won the battle, but she is also frustrated over the fact that she would have to wash the clothes of the soldiers.

After that the king and his soldiers use Nirma washing powder to wash the clothes, and the queen is very happy over this. Since the release of ad, hashtag #BoycottNirma is trending on Twitter, with various users alleging that the ad belittles bravery of Maratha kings and Maharashtrian culture.

An FIR has been filed against Akshay Kumar at Worli Police Station in Mumbai on Monday by a person named Suryakant Jaggannath Jadhav, who claimed that he is deeply hurt by the depiction in the ad, and urged the police take strict action against Nirma Limited for “maligning’ Maharashtrian culture”.

A few days ago, Kumar was being trolled for disrespecting Bhagwan Ram. In the second trailer of ‘Good Newz’, Akshay Kumar delivers a dialogue that is extremely objectionable in all aspects. One character in the movie says, “My nana’s name was Ram and my child was born on Holi, which is why his name was kept Hola Ram.” To this, Akshay Kumar replies, ‘Thank god he wasn’t on Lohri, otherwise his name…..”

Akshay Kumar is nothing more than a glorified opportunist. He is a PhD gold medalist from the school of seasonal nationalism, where John Abraham has recently taken admission. Ever since NDA assumed power again in 2014, Akshay Kumar seemed to have undergone a sea change in terms of choosing his projects, and he began focusing on movies with a nationalist approach.

With movies like Holiday, Baby, Gabbar is Back, Airlift, Rustom, Jolly LLB 2, Naam Shabana, Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Padman, Gold, Mission Mangal, Kesari etc., Akshay Kumar projected himself as a die-hard nationalist, and his future project doesn’t seem to change much. In 2020, while he’ll present himself as a hardened police officer in ‘Sooryavanshi’, he will also portray the role of the legendary warrior, Prithviraj Chauhan in the upcoming biopic ‘Prithviraj’.

However, Akshay’s profile wasn’t so before 2014. He is the same person who used to act in offensive, double meaning comedies like, ‘Garam Masala’, ‘Heyy Babyy’, ‘Desi Boyz’, ‘Housefull 2’. What Akshay and John did in ‘Desi Boyz’ and ‘Garam Masala’ is far from worth being called as a sensible comedy.

Akshay Kumar is top grade opportunist, who banks on the prevalent sentiments of the society. With the latest ad on Maratha culture, he has again proved that.
