The protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act has seen some prominent faces from the Bollywood join the bandwagon as they look to make a quick buck or encash the ongoing protests to enhance their personal popularity. It has become increasingly clear that the celebrities who have joined the protests don’t have any knowledge regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act which is evident from the level of intellect displayed by Farhan Akhtar and Jim Sarbh during the anti-CAA protests at the August Kranti Maidan.
It seems that rapper Raftaar has also joined the bandwagon as he attempted to mislead the crowd gathered to witness him perform.
In a clip that has now gone viral, Raftaar can be heard saying, “Ek baat bilkul seriously clear kar raha hoon. Chahe kal career chale ya na chale, koi dikkat nahi. Itna kama lia hai ki end tak bhookha nahi marunga.”
After making the statement, Raftaar then introduced his friend and bodyguard to the crowd in the video, ‘Is insaan ka naam hai Arshad. Ye mera aisa khyaal rakhta hai ki koi mereko dhakka bhi nahi maar sakta. Agar isko koi desh se nikaalne ki baat karega na toh saamne goli khaaunga.”
“Chaahe Hindu hai, chaahe Sikh hai, chaahe Isaai hai, chaahe Muslim hai Sab humare bhai hain. Kisi ko bhi bahar nahi jaane dunga. Aur iske baad jo bhi mere career ka hoga na, wo tum khud dekh lena. Mere ko koi parwaah nahi hai.”
The amount of stupidity displayed by Raftaar is unmatchable. His rant against the CAA was devoid of any logic and facts as he misled the numerous youths assembled to witness him perform. Raftaar has only further increased the misinformation against the CAA and the NRC by making such a ridiculous statement. If Raftaar had even cared to read the CAA, he would have understood that his friend Arshad will not be affected and the Act is all about the persecuted minorities from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. But of course, to expect logic from Bollywood celebrities is akin to expecting Congress to stop minority appeasement politics.
The celebrities have started a new trend as they attempt to make a martyr out of themselves. It started with Sushant Singh who was fired from Savdhaan India but later tried to portray as if he was removed from the show due to his opposition to the CAA. Raftaar tries to ape Sushant Singh by indulging in sensationalisation by claiming that he will take a bullet if needed but he won’t let anyone be removed from the country and he doesn’t give a damn about his career as he ends his rant by claiming that his career is in the hands of his fans.
It is clear that Raftaar is only trying to stay relevant as he attempts to make a martyr out of himself. His emotive rant as expected was a hit among the liberals but worryingly, he has also misled the hundreds of youth who had gathered to watch his performance. People like Raftaar in search of fame are using their influence over the youth and misleading them.
He has certainly gained brownie points in the liberal class and his rant has been making headlines which will give him good PR and business. Celebrity activism pays off when you’re not the best at your field. It’s time celebrities have some shame. It is important to understand that a celebrity’s opinion isn’t the sanest out there. The youth must reject such idiotic celebs and their silly agendas.
