In order to showcase her renowned appeasement politics West Bengal CM is all set to do anything to protect her constituency- infiltrators, the West Bengal government has stayed all activities relating to the preparation and update of the National Population Register (NPR) in the state. An order issued by the Home and Hill Affair Department Census Cell to commissioners of Kolkata and Howrah municipal corporations and all-district magistrates said that all activities regarding the preparation and update of NPR are stayed.
The contentious order stated, “No activity regarding NPR may be taken up without prior clearance from the government of West Bengal. The order is issued in the interest of public order.”
Notably, Mamata Banerjee has been ruthlessly against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) even announced that “We will never allow NRC exercise and Citizenship Act in Bengal. We will not implement the amended Act, even though it has been passed in Parliament. The BJP can’t just bulldoze the states to implement it,” she said without realizing that she had fiercely demanded this legislation way back in 2005 in the parliament.
It is worth noting that state CPI(M) leadership has welcomed the stay on NPR but said it has exposed the TMC government’s double standard on NRC.
The central government has decided to prepare NPR by September 2020 to lay the foundation for rolling out a citizens’ register across the country. The NPR will be a list of usual residents of the country. Once the NPR is completed and published, it is expected to be the basis for preparing the National Register of Indian Citizens (NRIC), a pan-India version of Assam’s National Register of Citizens, according to an official.
As mobs burn down whole of Bengal with burning trains, buses, stations, buildings against CAA, it is quite clear that Mamata Banerjee has become a staunch follower of Muslim appeasement and vote bank politics, with restricting Durga Puja- Visarjan and other Hindu festivals, giving allowances to Imams and appointing a Muslim in Hindu temple board in recent years, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has made mockery of the beliefs of the Hindus of Bengal. Now as she campaigns against NRC and the CAB, both of which she had fought for once, she has further terrorised the Hindu community of the state. Appeasement of the Muslims especially the ‘Muslim infiltrators’ is the sole motive of her. In Bengal, there have been reports and disturbing visuals of such communally enraged violent mobs pelting stones at running trains carrying passengers. Causing structural damage to tracks, setting them on fire and vandalising critical infrastructure are all methods to cause derailments and nasty accidents. Anti-CAA mob even resorted to arson and set the railway stations on fire, even as hundreds of agitators blocked the tracks at the railway stations. Within a few days of violence, these vandals and hooligans have run riot in West Bengal torching 5 trains, 3 railway stations, a dozen buses and a toll plaza.
