The Western Indologists and the Marxist historians of the country have denied the existence of Saraswati River for centuries. They tried every available trick to prove that, the Hindu texts like – Vedas, Ramayana, and Mahabharata- are pure mythology, and the places and bodies mentioned in these texts are pure myth. But, the successive scientific evidences have proved that there existed a river named Saraswati; the Aryan Invasion Theory is a farce; and the so-called Indologists have fooled the native people, only to justify the British rule in India.
The latest evidence in support of Saraswati River has been produced by joint research between ‘Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) and IIT-Bombay’.
According to the researchers, the ancient Saraswati River flowed through the course of modern Ghaggar-Hakra River, and their “unequivocal evidence” to prove the same. The Ghaggar-Hakra River flows through modern-day Haryana, and most of the important sites related to Indus valley civilization were found along the course of this river.
As per the research, a River flowed from Higher Himalayas between 7,000 BC and 2,500 BC. The Harappans, who laid the foundation of Indus valley civilization, built their settlement along this powerful river. The said time period of the Harappan civilization is considered to be 3,800 BC and 1,900 BC. The Saraswati River’s demise started with Meghalayan Stage — the current dry phase in the global climate that began about 4,200 years ago. The Mahabharata accurately describes Saraswati’s diminishing flow before it dried out completely.
“We found that the perennial river had uninterrupted flow starting 80,000 years ago; that flow continued till 20,000 years ago,” says J S Ray, one of the researchers along with Anirban Chatterjee, Anil Shukla of PRL and Kanchan Pande of IIT-Bombay. “It then diminished due to the extreme aridity of the last glacial period. However, the river revived its strength about 9,000 years ago and flowed for the next 4,500 years,” he added.
The Herculean task of discovering the Saraswati River was first taken up by Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar, one of the greatest archaeologists of India. Saraswati River was an important source of fresh water during Puranic times. The British and Marxist historians of the country denied the past existence of the Saraswati River and called the Puranas a myth.
However, the people who have read original texts have maintained that the Puranas are rich with elements of the history of Hinduism. The historians, aware of rich traditions of an oral history of Hinduism, also believe that Puranas and Itihasa (Ramayan and Mahabharata) is the source of history of Hinduism. To vindicate the historical importance of Puranas, it was very important to establish the past existence of the dried-up Saraswati River.
In 1983, Wakankar collaborated with RSS veteran Moropant Pingale and launched Saraswati search Abhiyan. In their travels across northwestern Indian states (Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat), the 18 member team found that Saraswati was Nadimata- the mother of rivers.
The Saraswati’s flow was through northwestern India and it was bigger than any river of modern-day India. The Indus valley civilization was dependent on Saraswati and as the river dried, the civilization is said to have shifted to the Ganges.
Wakankar argued the change the name of Indus valley civilization to ‘Sara-swat civilisation’. In 2003, NDA I launched Saraswati Heritage Project to support further research and maintenance of historical sites of Saraswati civilization. But, the Congress-led UPA government, which was dependent on Communist parties to maintain the majority in parliament, scrapped the project.
This shows the hatred of Marxist historians towards Hindu culture. The Marxist historians continue to live in denial despite historical evidence of Saraswati River.
Modi government revived the Saraswati Heritage project and Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board (HSHDB) was formed in 2015.
With the various scientific researches to prove the existence of the Saraswati River, the Aryan Invasion Theory (AIT) could be put to rest. And the Marxist scholars should accept that there is an element of History in ancient Hindu texts.
