Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, the member of AIMPLB, who announced the board’s decision to file review petition against Supreme Court’s unanimous verdict on Ram Mandir case, is a former member of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), which is a banned Islamist organization in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

“We (AIMPLB) have decided to file a review petition as we cannot accept any other land except that meant for the masjid. Thus land offered would not be accepted,” said SQR Ilyas.

He is a member of Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and served as convener of Babri Masjid Coordination Committee. Now, he is a member of AIMPLB.

Father of Umar Khalid, Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas also contested 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Murshidabad’s Jangipur seat in West Bengal. He is the current President of Welfare Party of India. Umar Khalid is a JNU student activist who had organized the anti-nationalistic event on February 9, 2016, leading to Kanhaiya Kumar’s arrest.

Umar Khalid, the JNU student who came to the limelight after the JNU sedition controversy and had claimed to be an atheist, has taken to Twitter to explain Prophet Muhammad’s compassion. Umar Khalid is known for his criticism of Hinduism. In many interviews, ‘the atheist and communist’, Umar Khalid claimed that Hinduism is dominated by Upper caste and that whenever he went to posh colonies, he found only upper-caste surnames scribbled on nameplates of the houses.

Umar Khalid, who is self-proclaimed communist and atheist, got triggered by the trend against Prophet Muhammad, and instead of condemning the murderers, he tweeted with hashtag ‘Prophet of Compassion’.

“The Hindutva brigade is desperate to divide. In their hatred for Muslims & Islam, they are now openly abusing the Prophet. How do we respond? The life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) teaches us that the best way to respond to hatred is by love & compassion,” wrote Khalid with deep reverence unlikely of an atheist.

Welfare Party of India is a staunch Muslim party masquerading as a secular platform. One of their pet issues is a complete liquor ban, in compliance with Sharia law. Promotion of Sharia law in a common-law democracy is nothing short of an anti-nationalistic activity stemming from religious extremism.

Not only is Ilyas’s is son a JNU activist but he was also suspected to be a part of the Maoist plan to assassinate the Prime Minister last year.

It is no secret that Umar Khalid is a leftist and a communist with Maoist associations. In 2018, the Maharashtra government had uncovered a plot by Naxalites operating in Pune.

The plot, hatched by Maoists, was to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Rajiv Gandhi style”. An FIR was launched against Umar Khalid when his name was discovered in one of the letters recovered during uncovering of the conspiracy. Thereafter, Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas had attended the Iftar party hosted by Pakistan High Commission during the same time his son was undergoing charges.

During the election campaign, Ilyas showed his deep concern for the Muslim community; he cited “worsening” condition of electors of Murshidabad, predominantly Muslims, as the reason for contesting from Jangipur. He stated, “Seven to eight lakh people migrated to Kolkata from this area and there are very little employment opportunities despite the fact that Jangipur produces good quality jute or mango. But those can’t be processed locally and they had to go to Kolkata. I’m highlighting such issues in my campaign.”

Welfare Party of India is known for its extremist Islamic views in addition to propagating Sharia law. The growing importance of such extremist people in the Muslim community is dangerous for the Muslim community as well as for the country.
