“How is this even possible?”, “What now?”, Liberals howl like hungry hyenas after Amit Shah’s surgical strike

Amit Shah, Shiv Sena, Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis

In a bold move that shook everybody, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis once again took oath as the CM of Maharashtra, in the presence of Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. What’s more interesting is the fact that NCP bigwig Ajit Pawar broke away from the main party with approximately more than 30 MLAs supporting him, as he took the oath of the Deputy Chief Minister. Both have been requested by the Governor to prove the majority by the next possible date.

Needless to say, the liberals got yet another opportunity to show why they provide a new stock of jokes for the Indian social media. The meltdown has been spectacular. Liberal loudmouth Sanjukta Basu, infamous for her spat with actor R Madhavan on PM Modi’s insults, was so aghast by the decision that she shot a volley of tweets ever since the news broke out. To quote one of her rants, “This is just insane. Don’t call it Pawar play Chanakya neeti and all that. Till late last night reports were that Cong’s letter of consent is ready, Udhav Thackeray will be CM and overnight so much changed that early morning oath-taking bhi hi Gaya? This is kanpatti pe gun.”

Rana Ayyub, who would otherwise pour her heart out in terms of outraging on such setbacks, chose to play safe, and posted a very short tweet, in order to hide her inevitable disappointment, as shown below –

At such a juncture, how could The Wire stay behind? Led by Arfa Khanum Sherwani, The Wire posted a barrage of tweets, crying the death of Indian democracy at the hands of BJP in Maharashtra. To quote Arfa’s rant, “Dishonesty, illegality, immorality… The absolute absurdity that has happened in #MaharashtraPolitics today has officially turned the world’s largest democracy, the Indian Republic into a Banana Republic.”

Ramachandra Guha also came out quoting an article claiming that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have debased Indian politics. The ‘murder of democracy’, the debasement of Indian politics was not sensed by these prominent left-liberals when the Shiv Sena ditched the single largest party in Maharashtra, the BJP after a pre-poll alliance, with a generous seat sharing arrangement.

Swati Chaturvedi, another left-liberal journalist notorious for her virulent rants online, was trying to invoke ethics as she posted a barrage of tweets, accusing BJP of bulldozing the opposition in their quest for power, as shown in the following tweets –

Even Congress leader and erstwhile hooligan Hardik Patel contributed to the slugfest with his worldly wisdom. To quote his tweet, “After what happened in Maharashtra politics, it was decided that BJP cannot live without government. The way corruption and unconstitutional work has been done in his government, BJP is afraid that his wrongdoing may not come before the public. #MaharashtraPolitics.”

To be fair, the liberals haven’t had a moment of relief ever since Home Minister Amit Shah announced the abrogation of the special status provisions in Article 370 in August 2019. Beginning with the bifurcation of J & K, followed by the favourable verdict of Supreme Court for the Ram Janmbhoomi complex, and now the overnight coup in Maharashtra, it is quite natural for our ‘liberal’ fraternity to lose their cool. Once the kingmakers in the UPA government, it is quite hilarious to see the left-liberal intelligentsia freak out at the recent turn of developments.
