“Was he an RSS member, was he not?” Media’s stance on Murshidabad tragedy is as shocking as it is sickening

How does that matter? Bandhu Prakash got killed along with his family

The horrific triple murder of a family in Murshidabad further highlighted the rapidly deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal.

The murder was so gruesome that even Pal’s 8-year-old son and his 8-month pregnant wife were not spared as the family was found lying in pools of blood.

As expected, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was quick to deny the involvement of TMC workers as has been in the case of most of the political murders in the state as initially, links between Pal and RSS emerged.

However, the media instead of turning the heat on Mamata and her government made the triple murder an issue of how the RSS/BJP were trying to throw mud on the Mamata government as they sought to divert the issue.

The triple murder was met with much outrage as it was earlier believed that Pal was killed because of his affiliation to the RSS and he and his family was yet another victim of the rampant political murders in the state.

Pal’s family have denied any political affiliation whereas the RSS maintains that Pal was a new entrant and was learning the ropes when this unfortunate incident happened.

The mainstream media has managed to give the murder a sharp spin as the discussions now revolve around Pal’s political affiliations and not the brutality of the murder and the incompetence of the failing West Bengal administration.

It was as if the mainstream media collectively breathed a sigh of relief as Pal’s family denied any links with RSS.

Rest assured, had this unfortunate incident taken place in UP, the media reaction would have been much different and the same journalists would have asked for Yogi Adityanath’s resignation.

However, no such claim has been made against Mamata and one can only guess whether it’s political opportunism or fear that is stopping the journalists from asking the burning questions.

Instead, the mainstream media found prudent to ask Pal’s mother about the gruesome murder and whether he was associated with RSS. It is disgusting that even at such an unfortunate hour, the mainstream media resorts to biased coverage and spreading their agenda.

The sheer brutality of the murder is no more the topic of discussion but Pal’s RSS affiliations have come into the limelight as the mainstream media strategically diverts the focus away from the murders and allows Mamata some breathing space.

The media blinded by its hatred towards the RSS has also revealed the identity of Pal’s mother which will pose as a huge security threat given the fact that Pal’s family has been brutally murdered and the volatile nature of West Bengal.

While the media attempts to divert the attention and instead blame the RSS for resorting to political opportunism, another local leader of WB BJP has been shot dead by “unidentified miscreants”.

55-year-old Harala Debnath was shot dead as he was coming out of a grocery shop.

Perhaps it’s the fear that is stopping the media from raising its voice against the Mamata government.
