Tamil Nadu journalist endorses #GoBackModi with a distasteful meme

Tamil Nadu, #GoBackModi, Modi, China,

While PM Narendra Modi honored the state of Tamil Nadu by hosting the Chinese President for an informal summit, the agenda-driven journalists from Tamil Nadu are relentlessly campaigning against the PM. While most of the journalists are from regional news channels, some represent the national media houses.

Deputy news editor of News18 TamilNadu, Mahalingam Ponnusamy, mocked the visit of PM Narendra Modi today, with an egregious meme.

Earlier today, Mahalingam Ponnusamy, the deputy editor of News18 Tamil Nadu, joined the paid trolls by propagating the #GoBackModi trend. He shared a despicable meme which mocked the PM’s visit as he welcomed the Chinese President. When his hypocrisy was called out, fearing the backlash, he deleted the tweet, thus proving his cowardice, and that he was aware that his tweet was truly in bad taste. In addition, TOI, today removed an article for insufficient information on Mamallapuram as the venue for the summit. One should understand, irrespective of your views, PM Modi is here on an official visit, conducting meetings with the head of another superpower. PM Modi should be respected for occupying the highest office of the nation.

Most of the #GoBackModi tweets are encouraged by the journalists in Tamil Nadu. These paid tweets don’t need any attention as they are funded by political lobbies. Media houses consciously ignore the positive trends like #TNWelcomesPMModi, thus substantiating our doubts that these trends are backed by prominent people on social media, who are also part of the mainstream media houses. Prominent national media outlets which garner high viewership for national affairs, fails to condemn its journalists here in TN for their biased reporting, and endorsement of trends carried out by handles operating in Pakistan. In an earlier report on the #GoBackModi trend, 58 per cent of the tweets were traced back to Pakistan, and only 2 per cent to Tamil Nadu.

Bhupendra Chaubey, a leading news anchor from the national media News18 Network, condemned the #GoBackModi tweets and warned the people against falling into the conspiracy hatched by Pakistani handles. What Mr Chaubey doesn’t know is, his counterpart from Tamil Nadu was actively sharing a meme supporting the #GoBackModi trend.

BJP Leader Suryah SG condemned TOI for publishing articles with insufficient information. Desperate for attention, Journalist from Tamil Nadu instantly commented in support of the deleted article. Agenda-driven journalists are not only misleading the people but also jeopardizing the integrity of the state.

To conclude, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry should take cognizance on such paid trends as they tarnish the reputation of the Prime Minister and the central government. If any regional political parties are found to support such paid trends which involve Pakistani handles, their recognition should be cancelled and their leaders should face charges tantamount to treason. National interest is paramount!
