The good thing about social media is that nobody, however popular, remains scot-free and whisker clean for long. In a candid interview with the popular news portal “The Quint”, John Abraham commented that the reason Kerala did not become ‘Modi-fied’ was because of the inclusiveness brought forward by the communist approach of the citizens of this state.
John Abraham was present at a book launch, when Namrata Zakaria, the moderator for the event, asked the actor as to why he thinks his home state hasn’t been ‘Modi-fied’ yet and what makes Keralites different from the rest, to which John replied as shown below –
“That’s the beauty about Kerala. You can see a temple, a mosque and a church within 10 metres of each other peacefully co-existing without any problem whatsoever. There’s absolutely no issue there. With the entire world getting very polarized, Kerala is an example of a place where religions and communities can co-exist so peacefully. ”

To support his argument, he further mentioned, “The other extreme, I remember, when Fidel Castro passed away, I went to Kerala and that was the only state with his posters and hoardings all over to mourn his death. So Kerala is really communist in that way. My father made me read a lot of Marxist material. So there is a communist side in a lot of ‘Mallus’ [Malayalis]. We all believe in equitable living, equal distribution of wealth and Kerala is a shining example of that.”
Before commenting any further on John Abraham’s political leanings, let us look as to who Fidel Castro was.
A Cuban communist, who overthrew Fulgencio Batista to acquire power for himself and his accomplices through the much famed ‘Cuban revolution’, Fidel Castro was the de facto ruler of Cuba from 1959 until 2008, when he stepped down from power due to his failing health. He took his last breath in 2016.
The way he reduced Cuba to penury is something not many people know about. Before Castro’s reign, Cuba had a higher standard of living than Ireland and Australia in 1958 and had double per capita income of Japan and Spain. It ranks 118th in the world today. Once a promising nation in the Caribbean region, Cuba has now been reduced to a flicker by the brutal suppression and socialist doctrine under the reign of Fidel Castro.
What’s worse, Cuba has 90% literacy right now. When in 1958, it had already achieved 80% literacy. Fun fact, even John’s home state of Kerala is doing way better than Fidel Castro’s Cuba in terms of literacy.
A progress rate of just 10% in almost 6 decades is certainly not something to be proud of, is it? But then, this man is ideal for people like John Abraham. John once expressed to portray the life of Nathuram Godse, the one who had shot Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi dead, on the silver screen. The irony would’ve died laughing on the same.
Now if we look at his current statements, isn’t this a classic case of opportunism? For his recent choices like ‘Parmanu’, ‘Romeo Akbar Walter’, and even Batla House [it is another matter that defending the police side, in this case, is almost criminal according to the communist principles], John Abraham had become the new poster boy for patriotic movies in Bollywood after Akshay Kumar. ‘
Before the advent of Modi government, the very two actors acted in profound movies like ‘Garam Masala’, ‘Desi Boys’ etc., which speaks a lot about their allegiance to the cause of India.
To accuse the Modi government of polarizing the nation while presenting a region, now famous for giving dreaded terror organizations like ISIS a breeding ground certainly reveals a not so sweet side about John Abraham.
Was all the talk of being pro Indian mere eyewash? Going by John’s current statements, it looks like it actually was.
