Recently, the internet and social media was taken by storm when it was reported that PM Modi is going to feature in a popular show, Man Vs Wild. This was disclosed by the show’s host, Bear Grylls himself. Posting a teaser clip, he said, “People across 180 countries will get to see the unknown side of PM @narendramodi as he ventures into Indian wilderness to create awareness about animal conservation & environmental change. Catch Man Vs Wild with PM Modi @DiscoveryIN on August 12 @ 9 pm.” A teaser video of the episode has been released in which a voiceover introduces PM Modi as the head of the largest democracy in the world. The video also shows PM Modi welcoming Grylls and then venturing into the interiors of India along with him.

However, now popular online content creator, “The Viral Fever”, commonly referred to as TVF, has sparked a big controversy by targeting PM Modi over his appearance in Man Vs Wild and taking a grossly anti-Hindu jibe at the Prime Minister. TVF posted an edited video out of the teaser of the episode featuring PM Modi. Even though TVF later deleted that post, screenshots of the controversial post were taken by several users and shared on social media.

In the screenshot, it can be clearly seen that TVF posted an edited video of the teaser with a Hinduphobic caption reading “Bear Grylls: Toh aap keh rahe hai ki Gau mutra is better than my mutra (So you are saying that cow urine is better than my urine.)”

Soon after the post went viral on social media, TVF faced a major backlash for its Hinduphobic remarks. It must be noted that cow is seen as sacred in Hinduism and Ayurveda considers cow urine as having significant healing properties. Therefore, this jibe by TVF was clearly an insensitive Hinduphobic remark. Social media users soon pointed out that this post bore a stark resemblance to the kind of posts All India Bakchod (AIB) was infamous for sharing. AIB was later shut down after allegations of sexual harassment against its founders.

The kind of language used by TVF in its post is particularly disturbing. Similar language was used by the suicide bomber, Adil Ahmad Dar, involved in the Pulwama terror attack earlier this year. The terrorist before the attack, in his recorded video, had clearly said that his attack was against ‘cow piss drinkers’. It is shocking that similar jibes have been taken in both cases.
