Delhi MP Parvesh Verma sends a list of mosques, mazars and cemeteries illegally built on government land

As per latest reports, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, BJP MP from the West Delhi Lok Sabha seat, has written a letter to the Lt. Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal. In this letter, he has claimed that there are 54 mosques, mazars, madrasas and cemeteries built on government land. According to Verma, these structures have been built over a period of last 20 years. Verma has also stated that these structures have been built on such lands belonging to the MCD, DDA, Gram Sabha, flood department and DUSIB, on which public toilets, community centres and parks were supposed to be built.

The BJP MP, Parvesh Verma, won with the largest number of votes in Delhi during the Lok Sabha Elections. The MP met with the Lt. Governor on Thurday and requested for concrete action against land encroachment of this nature. Verma has requested the Lt. Governor to form a Committee consisting of the concerned District Magistrates and the concerned heads of departments, in order to carry out a thorough inquiry into the aforementioned structures built on government land. In his letter, Verma stated, “When the elections start approaching, construction of religious structures like mosques, Muslim shrines and graveyards starts commencing. I only have an objection to the construction of these structures on government land illegally. There are 54 such places where mosques and graveyards are built. The list of the unlawfully encroached land that has been sent to the Lt Governor includes lands belonging to the 4 Lok Sabha constituencies of Delhi. Such illegal occupation has happened in other constituencies of Delhi as well.”

In his letter, Verma has also requested that the concerned District Magistrates be directed to verify the facts and submit a detailed status report to be submitted within a period of two months from the receipt of the letter. Verma has also said, “My survey establishes 54 cases of encroachment for mosques and graveyards identified on government land in West Delhi constituency as well as other parts of Delhi.”

The Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) has reportedly taken cognisance of Verma’s charge and has also set up a fact-finding committee in order to cross check the claims made by Parvesh Verma. The five-member committee headed by social activist, Ovais Sultan Khan. Khan stated, “We are visiting various parts of the city to compile our report. It is expected to be out by the end of next week.”

Well concerted recognition and action against such land encroachment shall send a message to politicians and cities where encroachment of government land and building of illegal properties on such lands for any reason, whatsoever, shall be taken action against by the government as per the law.
