According to media reports, Home Minister Amit Shah has summoned the Delhi Police chief regarding the temple desecration case in Chandni Chowk. The reports indicate that Amit Shah has called Delhi Police Chief for a meet and reportedly has asked him to apprise the Home Minister about the unfolding situation and what the Delhi has police has so far done about it.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy also indicated that Amit Shah will now be directly dealing with the Delhi Police on the desecration of the Hindu temple in Chandni Chowk.

Reportedly, Amit Shah has also reprimanded the Delhi Police Chief on the lackluster response of the law enforcement with regard to the attack on the temple.

The attack on a 100-year-old Hindu temple by a mob chanting ‘Allahu-Akbar’ has led to tensions in the area. On social media as well, the attack was widely condemned with many people criticizing the response of the Union government because the Delhi Police answers to the Home Ministry. Now, it seems Home Minister himself will be making sure that the culprits of the heinous act will be brought to justice.

A video of the mob gathered outside the police station has also surfaced on social media in which the mob can seen raising religious slogans like ‘Allah-ho- Akbar’. Anil Kumar Pandey, the priest of the 100 year old Gali Durga temple said, “A mob came to the temple last night at around 12 am. They vandalized the temple and left the place”.

Urging people to help the police restore normalcy, DCP (Central) Mandee p Singh Randhawa said: “After some altercation and scuffle over a parking issue in Hauz Qazi, tension arose between two groups of people from different communities. We have taken legal action and all efforts are being made to pacify feelings and bring about amity.”

After the meeting with Amit Shah, Delhi Police Chief stated that he has briefed the Home Minister about the situation in Chandni Chowk.

According to media reports, a PIL has also been filed for a court-monitored probe into the desecration of the temple by a Special Investigation Team. The PIL also stated that the probe should be focused on any lapses by the Delhi Police.

It should be noted that despite the desecration of the temple in the Hauz Qazi area of Chandni Chowk, Hindus in the adjoining areas have so far maintained peace and have not resorted to any sort of violence waiting for the law to take its course.
