Kumaraswamy’s arrogance: Karnataka CM loses cool when questioned by citizens, says, ‘You voted for Modi, go ask him’

Kumaraswamy, protesters

In a shocking incident, it has been reported that the Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy has been caught snapping angrily at protesters on camera. Members of the Yeramarus Thermal Power Plant workers stopped the KSRTC Bus which HD Kumaraswamy had boarded. The bus was going towards Karegudde village. Tungabhadra Valaya Hangami Karmikara Sangha and Hutti Gold Mines Staff Employees Union had gathered in order to voice their concerns about not getting their salaries.

However, HD Kumaraswamy did not show any sympathy for their woes. He gave an arrogant and insulting reply to the protesters instead. The Karnataka CM clearly lost his cool and as per The News Minute, he said, “Should I order police to lathi charge? You vote for Narendra Modi and expect me to solve your problem…You don’t deserve any respect.”

It is pretty hard to believe that a Chief Minister unabashedly made it clear that he would not help the protesters because his party was humbled during the Lok Sabha polls this year. The JD(S)-Congress coalition in Karnataka fared poorly during the Lok Sabha polls this year. In an ideal world, the Kumaraswamy government should have learnt a few lessons from the defeat, but the Chief Minister is clearly using the defeat as an excuse to relieve himself of his duties. JD(S) was punished electorally on account of poor performance by the coalition government in the state, however, Kumaraswamy has clearly failed to get rid of megalomania and arrogance.

Ironically, the shameful incident took place when Kumaraswamy was on his way to Raichur village on his second ‘village stay’ program. Kumaraswamy had started the ‘village stay’ program in order to gain the confidence of the people by listening to their grievances and solving them. While Kumaraswamy was supposed to be listening to people’s problems, he has been caught refusing to help the protesting workers because people voted for Modi, on camera. Not only this, but he also threatened those who were voicing their concerns with a lathi-charge. This shows how superficially the Kumaraswamy led government is functioning. The chief minister refused help and snapped back angrily while being on a program meant to address people’s concerns in the first place.

R Manasayya, a union leader, has disclosed that the Karnataka CM had promised to meet the aggrieved workers at the Yeramarus bungalow to discuss the issue. However, when the workers saw the bus passing through without stopping, they started protesting. The Karnataka CM, however, did not show any sympathy and broke his promise. This clearly shows that the Karnataka CM, Kumaraswamy has failed to fathom the massive defeat during the recent Lok Sabha polls and has turned arrogant out of frustration.

The Karnataka CM has now openly given up on all his responsibilities because the people voted for Modi and the coalition was humbled during the recent Parliamentary polls. This puts Karnataka in a very awkward situation as the Chief Minister has now openly refused to address the concerns of the people of his state. Since the Karnataka CM has taken the liberty of interpreting the Lok Sabha polls as a verdict on the state government, it would be a better thing for him to step down hounourably rather than compromising on the interest of the state and its people. If he is that angry with the electorate because it voted for Modi, then he has no moral right to continue in power. With this incident, the JD(S)-Congress coalition has clearly lost the confidence of the people of the state. It should now allow a more popular government to come into power.
