Freedom of expression dies a slow death in Kerala

Traditional media in India has historically been dominated by a group of select elites, result of a perpetual quid pro quo within the industry and the Indian government, which prevented people with unbiased and independent view to contribute to major part of the news. This bias coupled with strong hold over the medium for long has created a situation where selective information is pushed to further political agendas while facts and objectivity takes the back seat. This bias has been evident in almost all the scenarios where by the identity of the victims and the perpetrators, it’s decided whether something is worthy of being ‘news’.

The situations arising after arrest of the freelance journalist Prashant Kanojia, who had posted objectionable content against UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Social Media, also indicate towards the modus operandi of the left-liberal media which forms the major part of mainstream media. After the arrest the whole left-liberal ecosystem started crying foul over the arrest, what artificially followed were overarching allegations equating the arrest of a controversial journalist as an attack on Freedom of Expression.

However with the outrage by Left-liberals, social media also brought forward reports of cases on more than 100 individuals for posting content critical of Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan. According to a reply document uploaded on the website of Kerala legislative assembly shows that cases have been registered against 12 state government/semi-governmental employees and one central government employee. A total of 119 cases have been slapped on people for posting objectionable content against Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan. Out of the total 119 cases, 106 cases were filed against people who were not government employees.

The advent of Social media which transformed the medium from a one way loudspeaker to a two way telephone providing the erstwhile receivers the ability to respond and question, played an instrumental role in exposing this hypocrisy. The left-Liberal gang which has been silent on these cases and arrests in Kerala over years has now been trying to create a controversy against the legal proceedings. This again indicates towards left-liberal gang’s functioning where identities of the victims and the perpetrator are used as parameters weather any crime has been committed.

Recent controversy arising over a cartoon of rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal also exposes Left-Liberals on similar lines. The Church has urged the government to withdraw the award given to the “vulgar cartoon” and also sought an apology by the state officials. Staying with the trend the left gang has also decided to stay mum over this blatant oppression of protest against a rape accused. Like in most of the cases, here too the identities of the victims and the accused have played a role to decide whether left-liberal gang will outrage.

Despite such events in communist ruled Kerala the left-liberal stayed away from their trademark candle marches and other antics while at the same time cried foul over similar legal proceedings in other states like Uttar Pradesh. The left-liberals have not even spared heinous crimes against minors, which have also been marred with this agenda driven approach where the identities of the victims and perpetrators are used to decide it whether they deserve justice or not.
