Cricketer turned politician and East Delhi Member of Parliament, Gautam Gambhir is already on the front foot within less than a month of taking oath as a member of the Lok Sabha. Tackling the problems faced by the residents in Delhi, Gautam Gambhir has already started working on his 24 point vision document, which he had released in the run-up to the 2019 general elections. In the released vision document, Gautam Gambhir had promised CCTV cameras, a DU campus and multispecialty central government hospital among other promises for the constituency.

In a tweet, Gautam Gambhir has posted about the installation of CCTV cameras in his constituency. In the tweet, Gautam Gambhir also seemingly took a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who so far has failed to deliver on his promise of installation of CCTVs in Delhi more than four years after AAP took charge of the Delhi Government.

“For the safety of my mothers, sisters and for overall crime control, I have started the installation of CCTV cameras in my constituency from today. Thank you Hawk eye systems. One of my cameras is also aimed at your false promises, Muffler wale sir ji.”

In its manifesto for the last Delhi Assembly elections, AAP had promised for lakhs of CCTVs in Public spaces and buses. “AAP plans to install CCTV cameras in DTC buses, bus stands and in crowded places as a deterrent against crime. AAP will ensure that women can go about their jobs in the city free of stress while travelling by public transport.” AAP wrote in its manifesto. However, even after more than four years since the beginning of the term, no substantial work has been done in this direction.

Public Policy Research Centre (PPRC) in a report titled “A TALE OF BETRAYAL” that reviews the performance of Delhi government based on their manifesto promises provides a good insight into the actual work done by the AAP to fulfill those promises. The report summarized that out of 70 promises made in the AAP manifesto, 67 have not been delivered to the people. Remaining 3 promises were misleading in nature and out of the purview of Delhi government. According to the Think Tank report along with CCTVs, the AAP has also failed to deliver on other critical poll promises like strong Jan Lokpal Bill, crackdown on water mafia, public WiFi among the total 70 promises made in its manifesto.

While on the other end, Gautam Gambhir has already started to work according to his vision document as soon as he took over. Other points in the 24 point vision document of East Delhi MP include the upgrade of the Yamuna Sports complex, conversion of Ghazipur landfill into a fashioned park, multilevel parking and others.
