It’s kind of a cruel joke playing in Delhi as the man who promised free water and cheap water to Dilliwallahs has dragged them to a state where there is no water. According to a research by Praja Foundation, a non-partisan organisation that enables accountable governance, 86,637 Delhiites approached the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) with complaints about not having water. Guess what was the number in 2015, it was 34,554. It simply means that Kejriwal inherited a bad setup from Sheila Dixit and turned it into a nightmare.
The report goes on to say that the water scarcity complaints that were filed last year constituted 54 per cent of the total water-related complaints which were well over a lakh and a half. The number of water complaints received everyday outnumber the complaints received by the three municipal corporations of Delhi, which oversee civic issues in Delhi.
DJB vice-chairman Dinesh Mohaniya had a rather absurd answer, he squarely blamed the helpline for customers for it. In his immortal words “There was a helpline that we launched in 2015 for complaints and to address woes,” he said, “So, it’s only natural that the number of complaints would go up, since there is a huge difference between a helpline and complaints made through personal visits.”
And the horror for Dilliwallahs doesn’t end there, the Praja report even said that the complaints of water contamination have risen by 34 per cent from 2015 to 2018, drainage by a whopping 111 per cent.
Even last year, water wars caused havoc in Delhi’s colonies but the Delhi government paid no heed to this serious problem. Instead Chief Minister was busy with his monkey tricks and sleeping on the governor’s sofa.
Very few debutant politicians are as lucky as Kejriwal, who got the unprecedented support of the electorate in both the state elections he and his party contested. Sheila Dikshit had run Delhi like an AM to PM administrator with little regards to the wellbeing of the residents of the state. Kejriwal cunningly identified the gaps and promised the electorate almost every basic amenity for free. Little did the unsuspecting people of Delhi knew that Kejriwal will make a mockery of his own promises and turn Delhi into a living hell for the residents of the state.
How will he face the very same Janata?
Why will people vote for him after the long power cuts and terrible water management?
And more importantly, why will people vote for the man who promised them everything and snatched whatever little they had.
