Amir Khan promises to avenge Pakistan’s humiliating defeat to India at the World Cup

On 16th June, India maintained their supremacy against Pakistan in the World Cup for the 7^th time in a row, when they defeated their arch-rivals by 85 runs in a rain-interrupted match.

Rohit Sharma once again shone with the bat, contributing 140 runs to the mammoth total of 336 that India had posed for Pakistan, while Virat Kohli chipped in a resourceful 71 en route to becoming the fastest cricketer to score 11000 runs. On the other hand, Pakistan struggled to maintain themselves after the dismissal of Babar Azam and were struggling at 155 for 6, before rain interrupted the match, forcing Pakistan to chase a whopping 136 runs in barely 30 balls.

While scores of Pakistanis criticized their team for the lacklustre attitude on the pitch, as well as their antics off the pitch, British boxer of Pakistani origin Amir Khan had a different approach altogether. He posted the following in context to the humiliating loss suffered by Pakistan on his Twitter timeline –

According to the tweets, Amir Khan suggested that he could change the diet plan of the Pakistani players. The pugilist suggested to the PCB about taking his services in order to change the sagging fortunes of the Pakistani cricket team. However, he also mentioned that he would avenge the humiliation of Pakistanis by defeating his Indian counterpart and WBC Asia Champion in the welterweight category, Neeraj Goyat when they exchange fists next month.

Though disgusting and atrocious, these tweets only further expose the vicious contempt that most of the Pakistanis still breed for India. Malala Yousufzai’s antics at the opening ceremony aside, Pakistan still considers humiliating India in the field of sports as their top priority. This is not the first time that any Pakistani sportsperson has shown unruly behavior towards his Indian counterpart.

From the times when Pakistani hockey players behaved violently with their Indian rivals in the field hockey finals of Tokyo Olympics 1964, to incidents like the standoff between Aamir Sohail and Venkatesh Prasad at the Wills Cricket World Cup 1996, Pakistan sidelines sportsmanship and basic ethics in their ‘ultimate goal’ to humiliate. We do not need to remind the audience of how Pakistan fans treated us after winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. 

However, Neeraj Goyat didn’t take these jibes lying down. Without stooping to the level of Amir Khan, the ex WBC Asian welterweight champion posted a cheeky tweet as shown below –

It is ironic to see that while India aims to reach greater heights in every sport, including increasing their medal tally on a historical note at Tokyo Olympics 2020, Pakistan is still vying for humiliating India in every sporting encounter they can lay their hands upon. Sportspersons like Amir Khan only embarrass Pakistanis further with their arrogant attitude. It is not bad to be a bad loser, but it is certainly bad to be an arrogant loser, unwilling to accept the loss with grace.
