From the last few days opposition party leaders and so many eminent personalities from the media and social media are criticizing Narendra Modi for his remark that the late former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, was a “Bhrastachaari” (a corrupt person). Some were saying that calling the ex-PM a corrupt person is not a decent way and Modi’s remark is unfortunate and some claimed that calling names to someone who is dead is not good at all. However, a few social media enthusiasts and Modi supporters found it unobjectionable, many even said that there’s nothing wrong with calling spade a spade.
Today, when I saw a huge list of 50 derogatory comments made by opposition party leaders about PM Narendra Modi in the last few years I realized that this battle is not just one leader vs another or one party vs another, this battle is between ecosystems, where one ecosystem is hypocritical enough to ignore all these derogatory remarks against PM Modi and to criticise Modi about his remark on the erstwhile PM while the other is just busy defending PM Modi.
On one side there’s PM Modi’s remark on Rajiv Gadhi, Bhrastachaari, and on the another side there are so many derogatory remarks against PM Modi – right from ‘terrorist’ to ‘Nikamma’ (Useless) to ‘Hitler’ and ‘Namak Haram’ (not a loyal person). This is just the list of remarks made by Congress leaders. If we make a complete list with other opposition party leaders as well then we might need to add a few supplements to complete the list.
I do realize that this is a political battle. Clean political battles are possible only in a parallel universe, not here. I am very pissed though, because when these leaders make derogatory remarks about the DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED PM, no one has a problem but when the PM makes a small remark – it is almost like the end of the world for them. Some even asked Prime Minister Modi to step down and resign because of his remarks.
A horrible sense of proportion:
On one side Congress supporters and other anti-Modi intellectuals are pointing out how Modi’s remark was derogatory and why he should not have said this? And on the other hand their own leaders are doing the same almost every other day. It’s like saying that there’s a dead mosquito in your plate when your own plate has a dead donkey in it. Definitely, Congress leaders need to look at their own plate before telling others what to do and what not to do.
Cooperation is the key to any discussion:
Imagine a situation where you sat for discussion and from the other side people are just abusing you and making fun of your views. What will happen in the end? Will that discussion be fruitful? Definitely not. The key to a good discussion is cooperation. The same thing is true fior politics. If you want to convey something you discuss politely, you put your point forward in a decent manner, you need not fight. But abuse is unfortunate. If the Congress thinks that something good should happen then they should cooperate in discussion rather than just abuse its opposition continuously.
Unnecessary provocation:
This whole drama of the Congress’ seems to be an unnecessary ploy so PM Modi gets provoked and makes a blunder but it seems Congress doesn’t have a proper strategist. Their provocation is becoming harmful to their own image rather than PM Modi’s. To take an example – Congress President Rahul Gandhi started the Chowkidar Chor Hai movement. To counter this, PM Modi started the Main Bhi Chowkidar Movement and we all know what happened after that. Unnecessary provocation is never a good move.
Abuse from one end:
If you see any of Narendra Modi’s rally speeches, you will not find any derogatory remark by the PM against members of the Congress. He actually doesn’t even name the Congress President most of the time and says that they are big people. On the other hand, Congress leaders are on full fire with abuses for the Elected Prime Minister of the country. This is completely unfortunate.
You can’t stay clean in a mud fight:
Imagine you are part of a mud fight and you say, I don’t want to get dirty. I will not step in the mud. Will it work? No! You will lose. For Prime Minister Modi, it’s the same, he is in a mud fight. He even said that “Hum inko inke tarike se jawab dena jante hain…” (We can reply to them in their own language).
A Few questions from my side to all those who are criticizing PM Narendra Modi on his remarks on Rajiv Gandhi:
- Do you support all those remarks by Congress leaders against PM Narendra Modi?
- If you support these comments then what’s your excuse for not supporting the PM’s comment?
- If you do not support these comments then what’s your excuse for not criticizing those people?
- Is calling the democratically elected PM “Neech”, “Terrorist”, “Maut Ka Saudagar”, “Anpad Gawar” okay?
