Days after pollind ended in Bhopal, Farhan Akhtar sends message to voter

(PC: India Today)

These days, celebrities are keen to get involved in politics. They have a large following and are popular enough to be considered authorities on various matters by the public. We have celebrities such as Hema Malini and Gautam Gambhir who join in politics as a full-time profession and we have others such as Swara Bhaskar who choose to campaign for certain political parties. However, there are many who take to their social media accounts to spread political messages and more often than not, get trolled for their half baked knowledge and political acumen. Acclaimed actor/director/singer Farhan Akhtar is the latest of such examples.

In an attempt to be politically involved, he took to twitter to spread a message amongst the Bhopal voters, but ended up creating a huge blunder. He tweeted today morning, “Dear electorate of Bhopal, it’s time for you to save your city from another full-of-gas tragedy.”

No doubt his heart lay in the right place, but the timing is quite off. Bhopal underwent polling on 12th of May, 2019 during the 6th phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Today happens to be 19th May, the day of the 7th and last phase of the elections. For this reason, his message to the people is completely irrelevant as the people cannot possibly vote for any candidate, Pragya Thakur, or otherwise because the polling has been conducted already. If he is preaching the people for the next term, i.e., 2024, his tweet is a bit early to make a difference.

The twitterati immediately spotted his blunder and have trolled him mercilessly for it. Some of the tweets are:

Being the son of Shabana Azami, who is known for being socially and politically involved in the country quite a lot, this unawareness of Farhan Akhtar comes as a bit of surprise. Nevertheless, this false information will not have any drastic effect as the people seem to be more politically aware than Farhan Akhtar is and have told him so.
