Even after one of its biggest lie (Rafale) has been completely busted, the Congress Party is leaving no stone unturned in manufacturing more lies amidst the 2019 elections.  In one of the recent tweets, the INC tweeted a report of its own mouthpiece the National Herald. The report expressed qualms about the secret transport of 200 tonnes of RBI’s gold which was allegedly shifted to Switzerland in 2014 by the Modi government.

The RBI issued a statement saying that no such transfers took place after 2014. It said that the news about the gold being shifted is untrue and such transactions have not taken place since 2014. It is normal practice of central banks of keeping their gold reserves abroad.

The statement mentions, “It is further stated that no gold was shifted by RBI from India to other countries in 2014 or thereafter. Thus the media reports cited above are factually incorrect” The Congress Party without checking facts tweeted the fake news which was published in National Herald. The news portal claimed that Modi Government had secretly transported 200 tonnes of the Reserve Bank of India after coming to power in 2014. The National Herald went to the extent of publishing fake documents of transactions as well.

The fake news and hate campaign appear to have become an integral part of Congress’ Social Media strategy. On January 22, 2019, Abhishek Mishra, the infamous fake news peddler from Congress IT Cell and in-charge of IT Cell of Madhya Pradesh Congress was arrested on the charges of hurting the religious sentiments through offensive posts on social media.

Recently, the Himachal Congress shared an infographic showing as to how Congress transformed Amethi in the last 60 years and how PM Narendra Modi couldn’t develop Varanasi in 4.5 years. The picture of Varanasi that was shown by the Congress twitter handle was published by the water and megacities in the year 2011, almost 3 years before PM Modi came to power. Himachal Congress was earlier accused of sharing a fake video in order to defame the BJP party.

Congress leaders have failed to acknowledge the difference between fake and authentic news. They have regularly attacked BJP with incorrect facts and fake propagandas. One of the cases involves a tweet by a mysterious account which was further supported by the Congress leaders. An account with twitter handle @STFUIndianmedia started sharing video clips with the hashtag #ShutTheFakeUp, modifying a commonly used colloquial phrase to express exasperation but also viewed as a term of abuse. The account spread wrong data declaring high unemployment in India. The Congress leaders despite knowing that it was a spoof on social media started retweeting the information to defame the BJP party.

It is necessary to stop the Congress Party from spreading misinformation in the country. Thus, it is for the country to decide whether they have also noticed the degeneration of grand old party of India into the biggest fake news factory around.
