As the final numbers for the Lok Sabha set in, NDA is looking at a tally of around 350 seats in the Lower House. BJP-led NDA has been successful in adding to its spectacular performance in the 2014 general elections. In Uttar Pradesh, various ‘experts’ speculated huge electoral loses for the BJP citing the new found friendship between erstwhile arch rivals SP and the BSP however the final number coming out of the state indicate the caste arithmetic on paper has failed to materialize on the ground into votes.

BJP has also improved its tally from the 2014 general election to 303 in 2019. This trend of the electorate voting over caste lines is surely evident from the massive victory of the BJP led NDA. The scale of this trend is even more evident with raw numbers, which not only reiterate the popularity of Narendra Modi but also point towards a worrying trend for the opposition camp.

Leading the list was CR Patil who emerged victorious with a margin of around 6,89,668 votes. It narrowly missed the all-time record mark set by Pritam Munde, who won Beed by-election in October 2014 by 6.96 lakh votes. BJP chief Amit Shah, contesting from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar also beat Congress’ Dr. C. J. Chavda with a margin of around 5.5 lakh Votes. Among others Ranjana Bhatt (Vadodara, Gujarat), Sanjay Bhatia (Karnal, Haryana) Krishan Pal (Faridabad, Haryana), Subhash Chandra Baheria (Bhilwara, Rajasthan), Shankar Lalwani (Indore, Madhya Pradesh), and Ramakant Bhargava (Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh) secured wins by margins of over 5 lakh ballots.
10 states and UT which gave their all to NDA
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) also made a clean sweep of ten states and union territories. Rajasthan, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Daman & Diu, and Chandigarh have been completely painted saffron this year. The alliance missed the clean sweep in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh by one seat in each state.
15 States, in which NDA’s vote share, exceeded 50%
This trend is surely substantiated by a number of state assembly elections where BJP had registered victory post-2014 general elections. This trend also indicates towards BJP redeeming popular support in some of the states where it had to face roadblocks in the assembly elections.
Hindi heartland gave BJP a massive 201 out of 225 seats.
Hindi heartland which includes the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand. In these states, the BJP not only improved its tally from the 2014 general elections but also enjoyed a massive vote swing in its favor.
