Amethi, Congress, woman, vote

In a shocking turn of events, a woman in Amethi has claimed that she was forcefully made to vote for Congress. A video was circulated in the social media where the woman is seen claiming that while she wanted to vote for the BJP, she was forced to press the Congress party symbol on the EVM.

The incident took place in the Gauriganj at the GujjarTola booth number 316. Smriti Irani, who is the BJP candidate from Amethi, was quick in reporting the issue to the Election Commission of India. She alleged that Congress was involved in the poll rigging case. Smriti Irani alerted the Election Commission about it and said, “I tweeted an alert to administration and EC (alleging booth capturing in Amethi), hope they take action. People of the country have to decide whether this kind of politics of Rahul Gandhi should be punished or not.”

Smriti Irani also lashed out and criticised Rahul Gandhi for the death of an innocent man who wasn’t allowed to be treated in the hospital where Rahul Gandhi is a trustee. He was denied medical care because he held the Ayushman Bharat card. She also mentioned that the family is an opportunist and the lust for power and position in politics is higher than morals and virtues for them.

With BJP candidate Smriti Irani’s rising popularity in Amethi, as evident from the UP state elections, Congress is noticing a shift in the voter preferences. Rahul Gandhi has led the party to a slow downfall, and nothing is more evident to that than the fact that Congress itself believes that Amethi might cease to be the family bastion after the 2019 elections.

Once known as the “karm bhoomi” of the Nehru-Gandhi family, Amethi has been reduced to a symbol of dynastic rule. People are frustrated with the step-motherly treatment of Amethi and are looking for a change this time.

It is no secret that BJP’s decision to field Smriti Irani again from Amethi has given the Congress president nightmares and sensing defeat in the 2019 polls, Rahul decided to contest from a second seat in Wayanad. The recent allegation of poll rigging only points to the fact that Congress is desperately trying to retain the Gandhi Parivar bastion.
