Rahul Gandhi, in a recent interaction with students in Pune, was asked a question if politics can survive without love and affection. Answering this question, Rahul Gandhi said “I love Narendra Modi. I have no hatred or anger towards him. But he has anger towards me.” Later, the crowd present at this programme, started chanting PM Modi’s name and thus Mr. Gandhi was interrupted in his speech. Rahul, for the first time, made a sensible point, about the persistence of love and affection in the political arena.

This may not be entirely true considering that his party members have made very shameful statements about the PM in the past and despite being the party president, he has allowed them to walk get away with it by taking no action against them whatsoever. Also, people would remember and never forget the time when Mr. Gandhi called our PM a “thief”. However, he was wrong in the part when he claimed that PM Modi has anger or holds a grudge towards the ‘royal descendant’. Someone, of the stature of PM Modi, cannot stress himself up for a man as inconsequential as Rahul Gandhi.
Let’s be reminded, that this is not the first time Rahul Gandhi had to face the Modi-Modi chants while delivering a speech or addressing people. Who can forget the famous statement “Steve Jobs of Microsoft” made by Gandhi during a session with students in Narsee Monjee College, where he was again interrupted with Modi chants. Also, Rahul Gandhi has also witnessed the same happening during some of his rallies, a sight, no politician wants to see. The ‘Prince’ was once welcomed in Surat with loud chants of Modi. Rahul Gandhi has always been on the receiving side of the brunt caused to him and his party’s reputation due to Mr. Modi’s popularity.
These instances should be a lesson for Mr. Gandhi that no matter what, he can never match Mr. Modi’s level of prominence and popularity in the Indian political arena. This, combined with various opinion polls, should be good enough for Rahul to realize that 2019 is a battle he has already lost.
