Rahul Gandhi is in trouble for misquoting the judgement given by the Supreme Court recently on the Rafale issue. The apex court has asked Rahul to appear before the court under the charges of contempt of court. In his impatience to declare who was guilty, with no regard for the truth, Rahul Gandhi had strangely interpreted the Supreme Court order to confirm his allegation that PM Modi had stolen Rs 30,000 crore from the Indian Air Force to give to Anil Ambani.

The bench of three judges led by the the Chief Justice of India said, “We make it clear the statement attributed to this court in the address made by the respondent (Rahul Gandhi) to the media and public has been incorrectly attributed to this court. We make it clear this court never made such observation. We only decided on the admissibility of documents.”

Rahul Gandhi had made the comments in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Rafale which allowed the classified documents brought out by the media outlet to be used as evidence to consider requests to review a verdict clearing the Rafale jet deal. The President while in Amethi rally said, “I want to thank the Supreme Court. The entire country is saying that Chowkidar chor hai (Chowkidar has committed theft). It is a day of celebration that the Supreme Court has talked about justice.”

These comments were not appreciated by the BJP and they accused him of manipulating the words of the apex court. BJP leader, Mennakshi Lekhi, sued him for contempt of court over his unappreciated remark. This did not fall in good taste for Supreme Court as well and a notice is issued to Rahul Gandhi for appearance on Tuesday. The Supreme Court said “We never made any such observations commented on by Rahul Gandhi.” The court has asked his response on the statement that was made by the Congress President.

Rahul Gandhi has brought trouble for himself during the peak of elections. This might lead to the Party and its reputation’s further denigration. The party is already tainted with allegations, and now they have decided to disturb the Supreme Court and come under the court’s radar. With the clean chit that Modi government received from the court as well as the CAG, the current government was ready to prove its integrity in the present case and emerge victorious. Rahul Gandhi however, in his impatience, and sheer disregard for the truth has hurt his own case, as he has time and again.
