Pathetic attempt by Congress to spread fake news about Smriti Irani

Smriti Irani, Congress

This general election has been witnessing attempts by political parties to manufacture and peddle fake narratives to aid their electoral conquest. With parties desperate and peddling fake narratives to take political ground away from the BJP, these attempts are failing to dupe the crores of Indians active on social media. These narratives, which used to get unopposed traction from elite media circles earlier are now being questioned on their credibility and debunked if fake.

In another embarrassment for Congress, it stands exposed for manufacturing false narratives this time by molding comments given by the Union Minister Smriti Irani.  Smriti Irani, who considers Narendra Modi to be her role model had said that if Narendra Modi retires from politics, she will do the same.

However the Congress was ready with its sleight of hand to distort the comments. A Twitter account linked to congress had tweeted the same comment however the person replaced retirement with suicide. The tweet had also included a ‘doctored’ photo which read, “Agar Pradhan Mantri Modiji haare to mein aatmhatya kar lungi – Smriti Irani” (If Prime Minister Modi loses I will commit suicide).  As soon as users pointed out the blatant lie, the post was deleted from the twitter account.

Congress has been called out multiple times for similar incidents of peddling blatant lies with impunity. Recently Congress president Rahul Gandhi was also snubbed by the Supreme Court for attributing comments against the Prime Minister to the Court, for the same a contempt notice has also been issued against the Congress Chief.

Desperation of the Congress to counter Smriti Irani seems like a natural reaction against her political advances in  Amethi, the Congress bastion and Rahul Gandhi’s parliamentary seat. Smriti Irani over the past few years has been active in the parliamentary constituency exposing Congress’s meek efforts towards the development of Amethi. With years of representation by top party leaders of the Congress, Amethi is yet to see major issues in the area resolved. In the 2009 general elections Rahul Gandhi got 71.78 % of votes however in the very next 2014 general elections, Rahul Gandhi’s vote share saw a sharp decline of more than 25 % to just 46.71 %.

In another embarrassment for Congress, Nasir Abbas Bismillah, the grandson of Bharat Ratna Bismillah Khan, had also said that the family was brainwashed by the Congress party functionaries in 2014 when the family had refused an invitation from the then Lok Sabha candidate from Varanasi, PM Modi , to become a proposer in his nomination form.

The Congress party with its subversion tactics has been successful in misguiding people, perpetually supported by the left media nexus; however with the penetration of social media, the trend is changing for good. Most of the information which used to go unchecked and unverified, now has to face strict scrutiny over digital platforms, with records of over decades available in the click of a button. However this meek attempt to distort the views of such nature and relate it to the Idea of suicide is not only condemnable but also displays the lengths to which political discourse can be molded to suit ones agenda.
