National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has brought another surge in the Jammu and Kashmir political platform by flagging demand for separate Prime Minister for the state. He is the third generation heir of the Abdullah family and the former CM of the state. While addressing a rally at Bandipore in North Kashmir, he demanded the Mahaghathbandhan to put forward their view on this proposal. His speech reminded the government of various conditions. These conditions pertained to those of the instruments of accession, 70 years back. He promises to restore autonomy of J&K with its own ‘sadar-e-riyasat’ (president) and ‘wazir-e-azam’ (prime minister). This demand comes in the wake of the discussions on revoking the Special status of J&K.
The NC leader also went on to say “We are not like any another state of India. Every other state got merged with the Union of India. We joined our hands with the Union on certain conditions, unlike other states of India. Does any other state in India have its own flag and Constitution? Our handshake with Indian Union was subject to certain conditions,”
PM Modi sent a strong message to Omar Abdullah with a notation on this unacceptable demand. He also threw questions to the “grand alliance” leaders like Mamata Banerjee, C. Naidu, Sharad Pawar and Deve Gowda if they were cordial with a separate PM and President for Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah replied to Modi’s attack saying that he did not require any support from the other parties to prove his point. He also made a point of Maharaja Hari Singh negotiating the terms of accession and National Conference standing by those negotiations.
The Instrument of Accession was signed by the ruler of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947, accepting the dominion of India. This invoked the article 370 giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The aligned article 35 A was challenged in the court in the month of February.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir also took exception to Omar Abdullah’s remarks. Gautam Gambhir tweeted “@OmarAbdullah wants a separate PM for J&K & I want to walk on oceans! @OmarAbdullah wants a separate PM for J&K & I want pigs to fly! More than a separate PM @OmarAbdullah needs some sleep followed by a strong coffee! If he still doesn’t understand then a green Pakistani passport”. Gautam Gambhir recently joined the BJP and is likely to contest from Delhi.

The tweet shows the patriotic and aggressive approach that cricketer turned politician carries in his persona on the field and now as a politician too. His tweet is a strong message against Omar Abdullah’s unacceptable demands.
The Prime Minister has referred to the tone of Omar Abdullah as separatist and does not appreciate such fervour around the nation. He also expects the opposition to put this to great thought and provide an answer to Omar Abdullah’s demand. The scrutiny by the cricketer also proves that for 10 Omar Abdullah we have 100 Gautam Gambhir.
