The BJP manifesto promises a big advancement in the defence and national security sector of the nation. The ‘Make in India in defence’ is new addition to the previous “Make in India” initiative in India. This is in relation to the Zero Tolerance Approach to Terrorism approach of the BJP government. The party announced that it will be establishing the AK-03 automatic rifles’ manufacturing unit in Amethi.

This is a new step towards revolutionizing the defence industry in India. The “Make in India” initiative was flagged in the year of 2014, with NDA government coming in the ruling. The “Making in India” has given a boost to manufacturing and entrepreneurship. It is based on cultivating innovation and enhancement of skills.  The “Make in India in Defence” will help India gets its own indigenous defence manufacturing outlet. The defence equipment will therefore will now be made in India and used by our own military forces.

This shows that the BJP government is taking major initiative to revitalise Indian security and its armed forces. The manifesto has promised new additions in the security sector. It promises to “modernize” the police forces. It will help the Indian police force tackle modern crime such as cyber security.

The transfer of technology will boost the new “Make in in India in Defence” initiative. The party promises to work towards making the country self reliant and hence having an indigenous equipment manufacturing in the country. This has two fold benefits for the country. The deployment of manufacturing units would help reduce  employment. It would encourage the investors in India and abroad to invest in the country. In this regard, new infrastructural improvements have also been planned by the party.

The new concept of “Smart Fencing” to help block the infiltration has been issued. The pilot of this new concept already took place in the state of Assam in Dhubri. This concept is decided to spread to the other borders in the country. The establishment of National Committee for Strengthening the Maritime and Costal Security is a great step to protect the longest coastline of the nation.

The welfare of our prestigious Armed Force officials has also been taken up by the BJP manifesto. The “One Rank, One Pension” scheme which ensures that same ranked officials with same number of serving years will be given equal pension irrespective of the retirement age. The already debated topics of Citizen Amendment Bill and Article 370 have been given a more firm approach which were left unaddressed in the Congress Manifesto. The BJP manifesto is in stark contrast to the document compiled by the Congress which had no mention of issues relating to defence, reforms in the police force, Article 370 and various others that the holistic BJP manifesto takes into account.

The BJP manifesto is a compilation of promises made by the party likely to win this time. New possibilities like “Make in India in Defence” will accelerate the development of the country on a global level which citizens would agree is necessary. The hopes of each citizen of the country from its ruling party are high and the BJP is indeed ready to serve so.
