Congress party workers attacked a group of photojournalists and media persons after they took pictures of empty chairs at a political rally in Tamil Nadu.

A public meeting was called in Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency of Tamil Nadu by the Congress party in order to explain the party manifesto. During the rally, their call for maximum attendance met a tepid response, with many empty chairs greeting the meeting.

In the rally, a group of photojournalists working for a local Tamil weekly magazine began clicking photos of the entire meeting, including that of the empty chairs. The Congress workers lost their temper and brutally attacked the group. The entire incident was recorded and went viral within hours of being published on social media.

The journalists were heckled and bullied by the Congress workers, and when other journalists attempted to intervene, they were manhandled. Interestingly, the state Congress president and the current party candidate for Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency KS Alagiri was also present at the meeting. Apart from him, B Manickam Tagore and DMK MLA Thangam Thennarasu were also present but none of them, or anyone from the party came forward to stop the workers from attacking the journalists.

It was only when the police intervened that the journalists were rescued. As of now, the injured scribe was rushed to a private hospital in Tagore’s vehicle where he is undergoing treatment. The Chennai Press Club vociferously condemned the incident, urging the cops to take action against the attackers.

This is not the first time Congress workers have attacked people for merely stating the truth. A couple of weeks ago, a girl was attacked and heckled during a rally of Priyanka Gandhi in Varanasi, just because the girl happened to wear a ‘Namo Again’ sweatshirt. This wasn’t all. A couple of days ago, a Congress spokesperson threw a glass full of water at his BJP counterpart live on a News 24 program. As such, this is nothing new for Congress, who practice the very intolerance they claim to fight against.
