Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot’s shameful remark against President Kovind

Giving more evidence of Congress’ divisive strategy, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has made shameful remarks on Indian President Ram Nath Kovind in a public event. He said, “President Kovind was elected so that his community can be appeased before election”.

Taking the political discourse to new low, Ashok Gehlot has again given a peek into the shameful and derogatory culture that prevails in the Congress top brass, by reducing the highest constitutional office in India to mere dalit caste identity.

Congress has been notorious to fiddle with religious and caste identities in the past to garner support for their electoral plans. Dragging the office of the President into a controversy, with ulterior motives to peddle a skewed agenda, is not only shameful but displays the desperation of congress party leaders to save their political turf.

Taking aim at the ‘kori’ community to which President Kovind belongs, Ashok Gehlot had tried to imply that BJP had exploited the President’s kori caste roots to benefit itself in the elections in different states.

This issue is surely going to cross the boundaries of Rajasthan politics and churn a national debate over a senior leader’s insensitivity and disregard for the President of India. Ashok Gehlot’s comments for the President are unprecedented and clearly not in accordance with the etiquette and ethics of mature political discourse even in times of political campaigning.

Ashok Gehlot by his comments has tried to reduce, President Ram Nath Kovind’s illustrious career to a mere caste identity. President Kovind ,a former Advocate-on-Record (AOR)  for the Supreme court,  for which  only a select group of lawyers are eligible, after they clear a tough screening process and a parliamentarian for 12 years, before being elected to the post of President; President Kovind was serving the Governor of the state of Bihar.

Ashok Gehlot, considered the right hand man of Rahul Gandhi was also in the spotlight when he had trumped young Sachin pilot for the post of Rajasthan CM. Congress has been called out a multiple times for bring out caste and religion into political discourse.

Recently Navjot Singh Siddhu a ‘senior leader’ of the Congress in an election rally had called for Muslims to get united against the BJP, he had said “Main aapko chetavni dene aya hun Muslim bhaiyon,ye baant rahe hain apko,ye yahan Owaisi jaise logon ko la ke,ek nai party khadi kar aap logon ka vote baant ke jitna chahte hain.Agar tum log ikathe hue,ekjut hoke vote dala to Modi sulat jaega”

The Election Commission has also filed an FIR against the comments made by Punjab Minister  Navjot Siddhu, alleging that they were in violation of model code of conduct.

However Congress President maintaining his silence over Ashok Gehlot’s blatant attempts to use divisive tactics is in perpetuation with Congress’ long standing culture to exploit social factors for electoral benefits. After this development the buck stops at the voters and the election commission to give a befitting reply to these meek attempts of political desperation.
