The journalist from the The Wire Arfa Khanum Sherwani came out in support of the misogynistic comment of SP leader Azam Khan. While, the politicians and social activists have criticised the remarks made by the Samajwadi leader, the main stream media bias is supporting his comments.

The tweet by the journalist explains that the comment should not be taken only in regard to Jaya Parda but also former SP leader Amar Singh. The journalist has failed to explain the fact that making such derogatory comments, irrespective of gender, is wrong. She has asked the viewers to decide for themselves. However, she has to decide if the person she jumped to rescue was right in making that ‘underwear’ remark. Khanum, being a woman herself, should not support people who make such derogatory remarks.

She mentioned that the comment was directed against Amar Singh. Arfa Khanum later deleted her tweet. This doesn’t come as a surprise that media channels which support the leftist propaganda like The Wire are supporting the lewd comments of politicians like Azam Khan. It is a known fact that the media platform Arfa Khanum belongs to has been alleged for publishing articles laced with presumptions and against particular sections of society.

Samajwadi Party has been in the centre of UP politics since its formation. Azam Khan, a very senior member of Samajwadi Party is currently under fire for his derogatory comments, he made during an election event, on Jaya Prada. The party leader Akhilesh Yadav came to rescue Azam Khan. Akhilesh Yadav said that Khan did not say anything in particular to Jaya Parda but former SP member Amar Singh. He even blamed media for blowing up the matter out of proportion. He also said that Azam Khan was not talking about any women in particular.

Azam Khan made these comments while hosting a rally in Rampur. Akhilesh Yadav, after hearing these deplorable comments, was busy savoring applause in the rally. Sitting mum on comments of this nature speaks volumes about Akhilesh Yadav’s desperation and Samajwadi Party’s long culture of making such low-grade remarks about women.

The comments made by Azam Khan was “Jisko hum ungli pakadkar Rampur laaye, aapne 10 saal jinse apna pratinidhitva karaya…Uski asliyat samajhne mein aapko 17 baras lage, main 17 din mein pehchan gaya ki inke niche ka underwear khaki rang ka hai” (We brought her to Rampur, for 10 years we made (her) represent us…to understand (her) reality you took 17 years, but I understood in 17 days that her underwear is Khaki in color)

BJP leaders like Yogi Adityanath took to twitter to criticize Azam Khan and his comment, while other leaders like Mayawati, who also has been targeted by Samajwadi’s disrespectful tactics, chose to ignore the comments with no reaction to the derogatory act. National Commission of Women has issued a notice to Azam Khan on his comment on Jaya Parda. The Samajwadi party has a history of making sexist comments and humiliating women during their speeches and rally.
