Using one’s family tragedies to gather sympathy and influence the public is prevalent in the electoral competitions in India. Yogendra Yadav the AAP candidate, who lost the Gurugram seat in 2014, declines the claim of having used religious markers to influence voters during the Lok Sabha 2019 elections. BJP member Amit Malviya exposed Yogendra Yadav through a video which is clearly showing that he used religious sentiments to lure and influence minority communities.
I usually don’t carry TV debates to social media but making an exception to expose @_YogendraYadav’s janus face. Here is a video where he can be seen bragging his Muslim identity to a largely Muslim audience in Muslim dominated Mewat. If this isn’t cynical politics, then what is? pic.twitter.com/sPeHqaILpB

Yogendra Yadav is a politician and a social activist who is also the former member of the Union Grant Commission. In a debate between Amit Malviya and Yogendra Yadav which was moderated by Rajdeep Sardesai, Yogendra Yadav explained his family tragedy. Yadav said that during the partition, he lost his grandfather in the communal violence. The Muslim mob had beheaded Yadav’s grandfather while his father was a witness to the event. A Gandhi disciple, Yogendra’s father did not carry the enmity against the community and rather gave his children Islamic names. The humanitarian propaganda by Yogesh Yadav based on this story to influence the people and carry out religious politics was exposed by Amit Malviya. Amit Malviya is the IT cell head of the BJP.

Amit Malviya had claimed that Yogendra Yadav carries out caste politics and uses his family stories to establish cynical political agendas. While countering this claim of Malviya during the debate, Yogendra Yadav challenged that if the claims were proven correct, he would give up his public life and political career. Malviya tweeted a video which shows Yogendra Yadav addressing the people at Mahapanchayat in Mewat. Mewat is the Muslim dominated region of Haryana. Yadav is heard narrating the same old story about his family. In the end of the video, he mentions the fact that he is also referred to as “Saleem” which is the name given to him by his father.
Amit Malviya has finally exposed Yogendra Yadav and his religious agenda to gather political support. The question to ask Yadav is whether he would stick to his words of quitting the election proceedings as well as his public life. Amit Malviya has asked the same question through his tweet. The BJP’s IT cell head said that Yadav is just bragging about his Muslim connection and carrying out divisive politics in the country. Yadav who called Malviya insensitive and someone who is incapable of understanding human sensitivity has a number of questions to answer after the latter exposed his white lies on the social media platforms. It is yet to be seen what Yadav has to say about this video released by Amit Malviya.
