With the general election around the corner, stars from the entertainment industry are joining the political parties to contest the elections. One of the recent high profile joining is of Bollywood actor Urmila Matondkar. On Wednesday, she joined the Congress party after a meeting the party president Rahul Gandhi. After joining Congress, Urmila said she is here to stay and will not leave after the elections.

“I am here because I believe in the ideology of Congress and what the party stands for. I have not joined the party for the sake of elections,” Urmila told reporters.
Once a heartthrob of the nation, Urmila Matondkar had been pretty much absent from the lime light for quite a while now. Naturally, her appearance in the news again prompted millions of fans to find out what she had been up to all these years away from the peering eyes of the media. Turns out, as with her film career, she has been blessed in her personal life as well. Reportedly, Urmila Matondkar married her Kashmiri boyfriend, Mir Mohsin Akhtar, on March 3, 2016, in a secret ceremony. Akhtar comes from a family of businessmen. For some time, he tried his luck in acting as well in films like It’s A Man’s World, Mumbai Mast Kallander, and Luck By Chance. Moreover, he had tried modeling also and walked the ramp for designers such as Taroon Kumar, Manish Malhotra, Vikram Phadnis, and Ranna Gill.
The news of her marriage was, admittedly, heartbreaking for many fans and they tried to find out more about the man who had snatched one of the most eligible bachelorettes of Bollywood. The love story of Mohsin Akhtar and Urmila Matondkar has all the ingredients of a fairy tale. Girl meets boy, girl falls in love and marries Mohsin Akhtar in a secret ceremony.
Some louts on social media claimed that Urmila had converted to Islam and had changed her name. In fact, Mohsin Akhtar had even clarified that his wife Urmila Matondkar did not convert to Islam. Instead of stressing this truth, unfortunately, Urmila Matondkar started playing the victim card. From a fearless, brave, courageous actress, this was unexpected and heartbreaking.
The dejected fans just wanted to know more about the life of the actress they had adored and admired. A little bit of mature response instead of the victim card would have gone a long way in maintaining the girl-next-door image that her fans remember Urmila for.
