In what can only be described as a shocking blot on Indian democracy and freedom of speech, Bengaluru Police arrested few young techies for raising pro-Modi slogans. The shameful incident exposes how the dictatorial Congress-JD(S) regime in the state of Karnataka has openly tried stamping down upon democracy and the freedom of speech.

A video of the shameful incident has been tweeted by BJP Karnataka on its official twitter handle. BJP President Amit Shah also shared the video on his Twitter handle. He came down heavily on the autocratic Karnataka government and said, “Hugs for ‘Tukde Tukde’ gang and arrest of peaceful youth raising pro-Modi slogans?

Where are the champions of ‘Free Speech’?

Yuvraj of Congress must know ‘जिस ओर युवा चलता है उस ओर युग चलता है’।

“Stop intimidating the youth of India, which has rejected your brand of politics.”

This incident is bound to go down in India’s history as one of the most shameful incidents in India’s democratic history. It is bizarre to even imagine that someone can be arrested for raising slogans in praise of the country’s prime minister. Political differences might be there but it is shameful on the part of a government to openly and unabashedly stamp down on ordinary and innocent citizens merely because they profess an ideology different than the one espoused by the incumbent government. What the Congress-JD(S) government have done is a cardinal sin in a democratic society.

This incident becomes all the more shocking because parties like the Congress had come out in support of the ‘tukde-tukde’ gang in the garb of freedom of speech. Congress president had chosen to stand by the ‘tukde-tukde’ gang in 2016 when the gang had openly supported anti-India sentiments and secessionism. And now his party is part of a crackdown on innocent youths who had merely raised pro-Modi slogans. It is shocking how parties like the Congress maintain bonhomie with the ‘tukde-tukde’ gang and attack innocent and peaceful youth through state power only in order to make petty political gains. When the Congress-JD(S) government could not battle anti-incumbency sentiment brewing in the state, it simply chose intimidation and crackdown as the method of defeating the popular sentiment. However, the coalition government is grossly mistaken. This is going to prove to be the last straw and now both the JD(S) and the Congress will face the wrath of the voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
