In what can be described as an auspicious sign for the BJP in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, the party has won the Alo East in Arunachal Pradesh. In the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the victory from this assembly seat is likely to boost the morale of the party in north-east. In a major victory for the BJP, Sir Kento Jini has won uncontested from Alo East constituency in the North-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. BJP general secretary and party in-charge for Northeast India, Ram Madhav tweeted about this development. He said,

“Victory March of BJP starts from Arunachal Pradesh:

Sir Kento Jini has won (uncontested) from Alo East constituency.”

Traditionally, BJP was seen as a non-player in the North-eastern states. The party was seen as restricted to the North Indian and North-western states. However, over the past five years, the party has been able to expand its presence and become a truly pan-India party. BJP is the only true national player even as the Congress has witnessed a sharp decline in popularity and is now restricted to a few pockets. The fact that the BJP has won its first seat in the Lok Sabha polls which are going to start from April 11 this year is not merely symbolic. It speaks volumes of how the party has been able to emerge as a key player in the North-Eastern State.

The fact that the BJP candidate went uncontested from the Alo East Parliamentary constituency displays the kind of popularity that the party enjoys in the region. Interestingly, this news update comes merely a couple of days after the BJP general secretary, Ram Madhav stated that for the first time Arunachal Pradesh will have a BJP-elected government. The state is going to have simultaneous Parliamentary and Assembly elections on April 11. This update about the BJP candidate winning uncontested from the above-stated Lok Sabha seat not only comes as a shot in the arm for the BJP but also corroborates Ram Madhav’s claim. The BJP could not have expected a better start to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The polls have not even started but the BJP is already winning them.
