On Saturday, in a pre-planned way, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has again announced a fast unto death for the sake of Delhi’s statehood from March 1.
Speaking in the Delhi Assembly, Kejriwal stated that democracy is long due in the national capital as Delhi is still not granted full statehood. “Public votes and selects a government, but the government has no power. So we’re starting a movement on March 1 and I’ll sit on indefinite fast for the full statehood of Delhi,” he said.
Further lashing out against the Prime Minister and giving him lessons on how to run the government (which he apparently needs more), AAP supremo added, “I want to tell the Prime Minister that he should take care of Pakistan and leave the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Delhi Police to us. He has no time for the people of Delhi”.
However, it seems that he came up with a full-fledged plan this time. The model code of conduct for 2019 General Elections will kick in soon and under the provisions of the code, such conducts are proscribed, providing Kejriwal a face-saving tactic to end the fast drama.
Earlier, the Supreme Court restrained the demand of Aam Aadmi Party of full statehood for Delhi indirectly, when the apex court gave control of the Anti-Corruption Bureau to the Centre, saying only it has the power to order an investigation against corrupt officers and not Delhi government. The top court also left the decision on who controls Delhi officers to a higher bench following a split verdict between two judges. In the meantime, the central government would continue to handle postings and transfers of officers.
Till now, all the demonstrations of Delhi CM are nothing but an attempt to hide his failures. Delhi Jal Board used to be a profit-making organization which, under the leadership of Kejriwal, has turned into an 800 crore loss-making enterprise. He is an elected representative who still sits on dharna at every small issue. Full statehood to Delhi will mean Kejriwal making life hell for the people of Delhi as time and again he has proved that giving full power to him is extremely dangerous and he can stoop down to any level to undermine PM Modi.
That he does in his speech as well, adding that the Modi government interferes in every file of Delhi government, and the Delhi CM said there is “only one way – that of andolan (protest)”. Kejriwal is nothing but a child who needs constant pampering. Perhaps this is what happens when anarchists are elected as Chief Ministers. As usual, Kejriwal himself neither hopes nor believes of any gains from this drama and just doing it to remain in the news cycle.
