Karanvir Bohra detained in Moscow Airport, thanks Sushma Swaraj and Indian Embassy for swift action

Karanvir Bohra, the popular face of Colors TV and former Big Boss contestant, recently got detained in Moscow Airport due to a damaged passport. Karanvir Bohra who went to Russia to attend MacCoffee Bollywood Film Festival then took the help of various social media handles to express his plight. He asked the Indian embassy in Russia to intervene because the airport authorities were planning to send him back to India.

In his tweet, the actor shared his predicament by tweeting, ”so bummed… waiting at #moscowairport coz my passport is a little damaged. They contemplating to deport me back to India. @IndEmbMoscowRus@IndEmbMoscow i wished you would have told me that prior  to issuing me the visa.”

His tweet was discerned by the Indian embassy in Moscow as they replied through their official Twitter handle, “Embassy officials are in touch with Russian authorities regarding the issue”.

According to a source, the damage wasn’t caught at the Indian airport. “Hence, after Karanvir reached Moscow, it was noticed by the Russian immigration officials. While Karanvir has been at the airport for the last four hours, we hear that the Russian embassy, the Indian embassy and a lot of other people are working towards getting the issue sorted and having Karanvir enter the country and attend the festival he was originally there for,” said the source. However, the Sushma Swaraj and the Indian embassy in Moscow were swift and quick in taking him out from the turmoil. After 9 hours of rigorous efforts by the Embassy, he got a temporary passport.

He was overwhelmed by this quick response and thanked Sushma Swaraj. He tweeted, ”I have no words to thank the @IndEmbMoscow 4 helping me get a brand new temporary passport and a visa.celebrity or no celebrity,  i know one thing for sure, we Indians are in very safe hands when we travel abroad… thanks to @SushmaSwaraj and the #IndianEmbassy for their help”.

This is not the first time Sushma Swaraj came to the rescue of Indians who were travelling abroad. Sushma Swaraj who became the most millennial Indian Minister on Twitter certainly has many feathers in her crown of efficient governance. She is the one who started the trend of ‘Digital Diplomacy’ in India. In 2017, Swaraj impressed fan and critics when she decided to grant a year-long medical visa to a Pakistani girl Shireen Shiraz for open heart surgery. She helped out two more Pakistani nationals the same year by granting them medical visas for carrying out liver surgeries in India. Her humanitarian aid has won her praise from political counterparts, both national and international. In February 2015, Swaraj shot to international Twitter fame after she helped out 168 Indians trapped in Basra, Iran. In the same year, she helped out an Indian national who had lost her wallet passport and money in Berlin, Germany. In 2016, she helped out an Indian man to rescue his brother who had been stuck at Doha airport. She also responded to Dutch national Suzanne Lugano’s pleas on Facebook to help her locate her sister who was lost in Rishikesh. Swaraj had her team of officers successfully track the girl down. In 2018, Swaraj helped out a man who had been stuck in the USA without a passport and was due to return home for his wedding in a few days. In 2019, the case of Karanvir Bohra showed the emphatic and punctual side of her. With her efficiency in digital diplomacy and her selfless service towards the country, she is winning hearts both in India and abroad.
