The Congress party rewards the “Boti Boti” man of Uttar Pradesh, Imran Masood, with two most significant committees of the party. Imran Masood has been made part of the Election Committee and Campaign Committee.

Masood came to limelight during 2014 Lok Sabha elections when he threatened BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to chop into pieces.  ‘बोटी काट देंगे, छोटी-छोटी’ were his exact words accompanied by all the worldly abuses one can think of.  He had said, “If Modi tries to make Uttar Pradesh into Gujarat, then we will chop him into tiny pieces…I am not scared of getting killed or attacking someone. I will fight against Modi. He thinks UP is Gujarat. Only 4 per cent Muslims are there in Gujarat while there are 42 per cent Muslims in UP.”

Imran Masood was Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Saharanpur constituency. He was jailed for his hate-speech and had the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to the BJP’s Raghav Lakhanpal. There were four cases against Imran Masood pending trials in Saharanpur courts and one in district court in Lucknow.

It’s not the first time that Congress rewarded this hate-monger. In the run-up to 2017 Uttar Pradesh State Assembly elections, the party had appointed him as the Congress’ vice-president in Uttar Pradesh. Masood was one of the four party vice-presidents in the state. Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid had defended his appointment by saying that person cannot be held down for the metaphors they speak.

Khurshid had said, “Metaphors, these are metaphors and you cannot hold a person down for metaphors they speak and I am sure that he has been given guidance and counselling as far as this is concerned and I don’t believe that you would have heard something similar since then.” Recently, he joined Priyanka Gandhi’s roadshow in Lucknow, reported Indian Express.

Abusing PM Modi is a tradition in the Congress party. In January, ‘14 veteran Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar lashed out at Modi by saying “I promise you that in this 21st century, Narendra Modi can never become the Prime Minister of India, never, never, never; if he wants he can come and distribute tea at the meet here.”

He didn’t stop there, again in the same year when ‘Modi became the Prime Minister’ Aiyar lashed out at him by calling him ‘नींच’, to which PM Modi befittingly replied that ‘I might come from a lower community but my values are high’.

Not shying away from their antics, last year, another Congress leader and former minister of Karnataka TB Jayachandra, in a clear incitement to violence, called for burning PM Narendra Modi alive.

The Congress had staged a protest against PM Modi’s demonetization move on November 8. While talking to the media, Jayachandra had said the time has come to “burn Modi alive.”

In the run-up to Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, Raj Babbar stooped to a new low and targeted PM Modi’s 97-year old mother. He had said, “He (PM Modi) used to say that the Indian rupee has fallen so much against the dollar that it was nearing the age of the then prime minister (Manmohan Singh). Today, the rupee’s valuation has dropped so low, that it is inching closer to your beloved mother’s age.”

Ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the party appointed Raj Babbar as the head of the UP Congress Election Committee. It seems anyone who abuses PM Modi in the Congress gets rewarded by the party.
