In what comes as a display of Congress’ blatant disregard for Hinduism and its opportunistic politics, Shashi Tharoor, on January 29, made a derogatory remark on holy ‘Kumbh Mela’ and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In his tweet, Shashi Tharoor posted a picture of UP CM going for a holy dip in Sangam during the Kumbh Mela with a caption, “Ganga has to be kept clean and sins are also to be washed here. Everyone is naked in this Sangam. Hail mother Ganga”. The mockery was not unexpected as it came from a Congress leader but it indeed was a bit surprising as it came from Tharoor who loudly proclaims to be a ‘Good Hindu’.
गंगा भी स्वच्छ रखनी है और पाप भी यहीं धोने हैं। इस संगम में सब नंगे हैं!

Taking a dig Tharoor’s remark, Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani stated that the comment of Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram is identical to “religious slur” and accused him of ridiculing the religious congregation. She further lashed out against the Congress President Rahul Gandhi for his silent support to Tharoor’s “insult” of the Hinduism, adding, “It is appalling and he has done it with tactical support of Rahul Gandhi”.
Union Textile Minister didn’t stop there and further took a jibe at the Congress MP as she said that time and again Tharoor has made insensitive comments on Hinduism. Not only that, pointing out at the hypocrisy of the Gandhi scion, Smriti Irani stated that Rahul Gandhi allows his party leaders to attack the beliefs of Hindus but strategically wears ‘Janeu’ (holy thread) when elections are round the corner.
Although ‘big’ media houses have their own assessment of the statement, one thing seems to be clear that Congress party is anti-Hindu. Although Congressmen will disagree, the fact remains that the Nehru-Gandhi family has championed the cause of dividing people on the basis of caste and religion and has continuously pursued an anti-Hindu stand.
The biasness against Hindus dates back to the time of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru cabinet introduced the Hindu Code Bills, thereby introducing the concept of different laws for different religions. Later, after Indira Gandhi was assassinated, anti-Sikh riots took place and Congressmen like Jagdish Tytler were allegedly involved. Afterward, during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi, vote bank politics was taken to the next level of which the Shah Bano case is the perfect example.
Moreover, it was during the ten years of UPA-1 and UPA-2, when the anti-Hindu stand became more apparent. Former PM Manmohan Singh’s statement before the 2009 General Elections that minorities have the first right on the resources of India was hailed as a secular statement. It was also during this ten-year rule that saw terrorists like Ishrat Jahan being projected as martyrs, dreaded terrorist Osama Bin Laden respectfully addressed as Osama Ji and radical Islamists like Zakir Naik was given patronage among others.

But the ‘next generation is indeed smart’. The ‘Generation-Z’ of the Congress party i.e. Rahul Gandhi broke all the records of his ancestors and played the gimmick of ‘Janeu Dhari Hindu’. However, the mockery of the largest Hindu gathering shows that the anti-Hindu stand is intrinsic to the Congress DNA and the ‘janeu’ that the party recently donned is nothing but a facade. The comment which Tharoor made on CM Yogi’s holy dip at Kumbh is suggestive of the fact that Congress only believes in maneuvering Hindu voters during elections for cheap political gains. The party is anti-Hindu and no matter how much electoral drubbing they get, that is not going to change.
