Looks like Rajdeep Sardesai feels no shame in being trolled publicly, in fact, it seems like he loves it. Recently, a video posted on Youtube has taken the internet by storm. In the video, Rajdeep is seen talking about his newly launched book ‘Democracy XI’, released in 2017, was owned royally by the ‘Prince of Kolkata’.
As mentioned, Rajdeep had invited some of the established cricketers to a book launch of his creation ‘Democracy XI’ in late 2017, which took subtle digs at the NDA government under the garb of portraying the secularism of Indian cricket. The conference also included the likes of Boria Majumdar, a noted sports journalist who writes primarily for news portals like The Times of India and India Today.
To begin with, our ‘Dada’ was at his usual best, indulging in humorous banter with the crowd. Though he didn’t spare anyone in his smart jibes, his favorite target was Rajdeep, whom he trolled royally throughout the conference. Things took a rather savage turn when Boria recalled an anecdote about Rajdeep Sardesai asking Sourav if he would like to be the Chief Minister of Bengal, Sourav cheekily replied, “I thought this was a cricket book. This cricket book that is being launched, so I can see the faces of myself, Dhoni, Dravid, Pataudi, Bedi, Gavaskar, Azharuddin and Sachin….There is no politician here, so why such a question?”
Then, to the delight of the audience, and to the embarrassment of Rajdeep himself, Sourav dropped the bombshell as he asked, “Secondly Rajdeep, you just got scolded by the former President on TV. You take such risks in life you know.”
As the crowd chuckled to their heart’s content, an embarrassed Rajdeep tried to show some spirit by telling his tales of being trolled by his in laws as well as the Bengalis, to which even Boria took a potshot, as he said, “If you write Mishti Doi vs. Srikanth, you will get scolded everyday in Bengal.”
This is not the first time that Rajdeep was owned by Sourav Ganguly. Earlier, when the journalist asked him whether Greg Chappell owes an apology to the Indian cricket, he replied in his usual straightforward manner, “He can call up Tendulkar or Ganguly, but he dare not dial my number. If he is watching the television, he dare not dial the number of Sourav Ganguly.” This clearly shows that our ‘Dada’ hadn’t forgotten the way he was humiliated by the former coach of the Indian team, which also cost the Indian team dearly.
Also, this is not the first time that Rajdeep was trolled for his nonsensical takes on random issues. While he gets his fair share of roasting from the likes of Mukesh Ambani, Rahul Dravid, and even Raj Thackeray, Rajdeep has also been roasted by the likes of Sania Mirza and Pranab Mukherjee for asking insensitive questions. While Sania criticized Rajdeep for asking absurd questions regarding whether she would be ‘settling down’, Pranab Da was annoyed about the continuous interruptions by the left liberal journalist, and asked him to maintain some courtesy. To be honest, Rajdeep should now look back at these moments and at least inculcate some basic courtesy in himself, otherwise it wouldn’t be long before he is declared the ‘Arvind Kejriwal of Indian Journalism’ .
