Actress Sonam Kapoor is back into the news again. She recently advocated the need of the controversial gender neutral clothing while inaugurating a fashion outlet by her friend and fashion designer Kunal Rawal.

To quote her statement to the media, “I believe a lot in gender fluidity. I think clothes should be gender neutral, in general. For me, it is very exciting to wear clothes people perceive as menswear and when I see men wear clothes, which people perceive as womenswear, I think it is very cool. It is edgy and not in your face and for me, it is more rebellious than louder.”

She further added, “I think combination of menswear and women wear look amazing and I cannot wait for Kunal to start a womens’ wear line. I like menswear; I have worn Kunal’s menswear two-three times for promotions, shoots, and shows.”

Sonam also praised Kunal for going ahead with the gender-neutral designs in his fashion outlet. To further quote her statement, “I like his clothes, they are really cool. In this era of over-embellishment, when you are subtle, it screams louder than when you’re overdressed or over-done. So I love the class and his clothes.” Also, she appealed to the people to watch her upcoming film, ‘Ek Ladki ko Dekha to Aisa Laga’, which is a rather controversial take on homosexual relations, while ending her press statement.

There is an old, but quite well known saying, ‘Practise what you preach’. However, like every social justice warrior on social media, Sonam Kapoor does not seem to give two hoots to this thought. If she was so insistent on gender-neutral clothing, she could’ve started that with her own wedding. After all, charity begins at home, isn’t it Sonam Kapoor?

However, we forget as to whom we’re addressing. If hypocrisy was personified, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja would’ve been the best fit for the same. An ultra-feminist, she is one of the notorious ‘Placard Gang’ who vilified and demonized the entire Sanatan Dharma on the basis of some shady media reports in the controversial Kathua rape case. She is the entitled bully who would sermonize people on how not to celebrate Diwali by bursting crackers while having no shame in celebrating the fireworks of New Year in London.

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is the same schoolroom bully who wouldn’t hesitate to mock Mumbai Police if they try to alert for traffic violations. If confronted for her hypocritical stance on pollution, she would find it convenient to quit Twitter rather than come out and clarify her stance.

As such, she is the last person who should be talking about social justice. It would be interesting to see if she practices the gender neutral clothing in her further movies or not, or is it a mere eyewash.
