PM Modi launched a scathing attack on the Communist government in Kerala along with other parties in the state, viz. UDF, LDF and the Congress. He came down heavily on the government of the day over the Sabarimala issue. PM Modi said, “For a few months, the entire nation has been talking about Sabarimala. The conduct of Kerala’s LDF Government on the Sabarimala issue will go down in history as one of the most shameful behaviours by any Party and Government.” He added, “We knew that the Communists do not respect Indian history, culture and spirituality. But nobody imagined, they would have such hatred.”

The conduct of the Kerala government in connection with the entry of women in Sabarimala temple has indeed been despicable. Earlier this month, it finally succeeded in defiling the sanctity of Sabarimala. In an act of desecration in the garb of devotion, two women in their 40s entered Sabarimala’s Sanctum Sanctorum before dawn, at about 3:45 AM on January 2, 2019. Dressed in black, under the protection of the police, in a hasty manner, the women rushed through and reportedly “prayed” to Bhagwan Ayyappa before returning. They faced no protests from devotees in that time of the night and caught devotees and temple priests by surprise with their secretive act. The nature of the visit being discreet and stealthy and the connection of these women with the Communist government clearly show that this egregious offence was not an act of devotion but that of deliberate desecration clearly aimed to undermine the Hindu faith. Traditions were discarded and so were the rituals of the Sabarimala temple. The women “prayed” at a time when no prayer ceremony takes place in Hindu Temples, with some exceptions that do not apply in the worship of Bhagwan Ayyappa.

PM Modi also came down on other parties with respect to this issue and said, “The UDF is no better! The Congress has multiple stands – they say one thing in Parliament but a different thing in Pathanamthitta.” Prime Minister Modi made it clear that the BJP’s stand on the issue has always been clear. He also said that if there is a party which has been at the forefront of standing with Kerala and its culture, it is the BJP. Prime Minister Modi has, therefore, made it clear that the BJP stands firmly with the Sabarimala devotees. This comes at a time when the communist government has been exposed in its attempts to defile the shrine.

PM Modi came down heavily on the UDF and the LDF. He said that though the two are different in name, in corruption, casteism, and communalism, they are the same. They are also the same when it comes to damaging Kerala’s cultural fabric. And they are also the same when it comes to political violence.

PM Modi also touched upon another sensitive topic, i.e. the debate around Triple Talaq. He said, “The Left and the Congress make tall claims about respect to gender justice and social justice. But their actions are exactly the opposite. The NDA Government has been working towards abolishing Triple Talaq. Who is opposing us on this? The Communists and the Congress.”

PM Modi went hammer and tongs after the Congress and the communist government for their dubious stance on the issue of Sabarimala temple. He also did not mince his words about the Triple Talaq issue. This has also exposed the real face of the communist government in the state and the opportunistic character of the Congress.
