On Friday, January 25, veteran actor and BJP MP Paresh Rawal took a jibe at Priyanka Vadra’s entry into politics and the media’s epithet of Priyanka being the ‘trump card’. Earlier, the Congress inducted Priyanka Gandhi Vadra into the party and surprisingly appointed her as the general secretary of the same. She would supervise the election campaign for eastern Uttar Pradesh.

On Priyanka’s induction as the general secretary, the Paresh Rawal humorously commented, “Woh kehte hain ki ab humne apna trump card utara hain. Toh humein yeh poochhna hain, ki ab tak kyun joker se khel rahein the? (They say that now we have introduced our trump card. So I want to ask why were you playing with a joker card so far?)”. This tweet by Paresh Rawal has been retweeted by more than 8000 Twitterati.

Needless to say, the left-liberal ecosystem was up and working in her praise. Intellectuals, who would otherwise go hammer and tongs after the BJP or the RSS, were singing infinite praises of the new heir to the Nehru-Gandhi brand of politics. The cheerleaders of the Congress party dubbed the move a masterstroke and strongly believe that Priyanka would instill new energy in the party when it has to contest in a state where it is politically irrelevant. The reasons for living under the spell of such illusions are best known to them only because facts suggest otherwise.

While the ‘epitomes of hypocrisy’ are busy in hail praising the Gandhi scion’s entry in the active politics, foreign media, however, showed guts and honesty. A newspaper from New Zealand, The Press, had the most hilarious take on it. The New Zealand daily described Priyanka’s entry into the politics as ‘Rajiv Gandhi’s daughter joins family firm’.

Talking to media after the announcement of Priyanka’s re-entry into active politics, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “We want to congratulate the party for announcing the ‘failure’ of Rahul Gandhi”. Patra further added that for the Congress, family is the party, whereas, in the BJP, the party is family.

Not to forget that, Priyanka Vadra has a “ton of achievements” to back her candidature. In the run up to the Lok Sabha election of 2014, the Gandhi scion got the maximum media attention for making a derogatory remark on PM Modi. She charged the then BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, of practicing ‘Neech Politics’ (low-level politics). The BJP capitalized on the “neech rajniti” remark and scored massively among the lower classes, practically handing Narendra Modi his victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Priyanka was the cause of huge damage to the Congress party because of her immature remark.

Priyanka Vadra is given credit for bringing Rahul and Akhilesh together in 2017 prior to the assembly election of Uttar Pradesh. But, after the results of UP state assembly elections were announced everyone saw the outcome of the ‘masterstroke’ in which Priyanka Gandhi Vadra played a crucial role as per Congress leaders. The media has hailed Priyanka’s entry into politics as some sort of ‘epoch making event’ despite the fact that she has even less political experience than her brother, Rahul Gandhi, who is also an abysmal failure.
