Nun protesting bail for rape accused pastor receives letter of warning in Kerala

Kerala, nun, rape

(PC: News 18)

According to media reports, the Kerala nun, who protested against the rape-accused pastor, Bishop Franco Mullackal, has received a letter of warning from her superiors. The letter stated that the nun, Sister Lucy Kalapura, was involved in anti-church activities and was leading a life that was “against principles of religious life”. Shockingly, the Kerala government hasn’t taken any steps to dispense of these false allegations and seems to be deeply preoccupied with the Sabarimala issue.

The letter that was issued to Sister Kalapura, reads, “Your deeds on 20th September 2018 and on the following days were of most grave external scandal and harm to the Church and the Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC). You went to the Ernakulam High Court junction and participated in the protest held by the SOS Action Council on 20-9-2018 without the permission of your superior. You have published articles in some non-Christian newspapers and weeklies like Mangalam and Madhyamam etc, gave interviews to Samayam without seeking permission from the provincial superior. Through Facebook, channel discussions and articles you belittled the Catholic leadership by making false accusations and tried to bring down the sacraments. You tried to defame FCC also. Your performance through social media as a religious sister was culpable arising grave scandal”. The letter issued to Sister Kalapura is nothing but an act of revenge.

In her reply, the nun of St Mary’s province in Mananthavady, said, “I don’t think my acts, as mentioned by the Catholic Church in its notice, are wrong. If I’d known they were wrong, I would have never committed them. I have no clarification to give regarding that matter. There’s no doubt that this is an act of revenge.”
Earlier, Pastor Bishop Franco Mullackal was accused of raping a nun several times between 2014 and 2016. The nun belongs to the order of Missionaries of Jesus. Later, Mullackal was arrested and sent to the sub-jail at Pala, where he spent three weeks before getting bail. Sister Kalapura and four other nuns were protesting against Mullackal’s bail.

What caught the eyes is the silence and ignorance on the part of communist government of Kerala. CM Pinarayi Vijayan of the government of Kerala, went out of his way, time and again, to stand against Hindu sentiments on the Sabarimala issue, but doesn’t seem to be interested in the nun rape case.

The Communist government of the state arrested various activists and leaders from the BJP for protesting silently against the verdict of Supreme Court on Sabarimala Temple. The BJP State Secretary Krishnakumar was slapped with 4 cases in this incident. Also, more than 5000 cases had been registered against Bhagwan Ayyappa devotees. Moreover, Communist goons killed a devotee named Chandran Unnithaan, but the state government claimed that he died due to a heart attack while the police report revealed that it was a murder. Subsequently, State Mahila Morcha General Secretary of BJP, Advocate Nivedita, had also been arrested from her house for chanting the Ayyappa mantra in Kerala. On the other hand, CPI (M) goons who pelt bombs are roaming free in the state.
The latest development in Kerala clearly signifies the fact that the Communist government is indulging in Christian appeasement. The people of the state are looking at the deeds of Pinarayi Vijayan’s government. It seems that Communism is counting its last breath in Kerala and that the ideology will be absent from the nation soon.
