Deve Gowda(s) playing the game of chicken so as to avoid the wrath of the electorate

Ever since the unholy alliance of the JD(S)-Congress has arrived at power in Karnataka, Junior Deve Gowda has been a crying ocean as if he looks for an opportunity to cry. Every time he cries, he accuses Congress of mistreating him. He broke down twice and has almost cried on many occassions. In July last year, a teary-eyed junior Deve Gowda had stated that “All of you are happy because your elder or younger brother has become the chief minister. But I am not happy. I am swallowing my own pain like poison, like Vishakantha (Lord Shiva, who drank poison to save the world).’’

According to various media reports, recently, he cried again while addressing JD(S) MLAs and MLCs in the meeting. It seems that crying has become a new hobby of the incumbent Karnataka CM. An emotional Kumaraswamy told JD(S) MLAs and MLCs that he was functioning like a clerk and not like a chief minister because of Congress’ interference in almost everything.

The News18 has quoted an MLA who was present in the meeting saying, “He is sad. He almost cried. Told us that the Congress was behaving like a big brother. Forcing him to sign all kinds of orders. They forced him to expand the Cabinet and even appointed chairpersons to government-run boards and corporations without his approval. He feels that it is getting tougher with each passing day.”

Senior Deve Gowda has been protesting but rather silently. The former PM Deve Gowda has done nothing substantial to end the torture inflicted upon his son at the hands of the Congress. In fact, on the one hand, they are running a pretty stable government (so far) and have been supporting Rahul Gandhi as PM candidate too. They are bargaining for the Lok Sabha elections seats. According to media reports, senior Gowda expects 12 Lok Sabha seats from the Congress in the upcoming general elections. However, Congress as per reports is willing to offer only six seats to JD(S). The JD(S) seems to have compromised with the self-respect of its leaders for mere political gains.

Kumaraswamy is using dramatic tactics in order to fool the common man. It is clear that the JD(S) has realised that the electorate is not impressed with the unholy Congress-JD (S) coalition. With his tears, he is trying to send across the message that while he is all for public welfare, it is the Congress which must be blamed for all the wrongs. The state electorate had already turned anti-Congress after Congress CM Siddaramaiah’s misrule. The JD (S) keeps cursing and demonizing the Congress party so that they don’t face the wrath of the angry voters in the state in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The JD (S) only has only two Lok Sabha seats, and the angry voters could further damage their political prospects in the upcoming general elections.

Ever since the unholy Congress-JD (S) coalition came to power, there have been tussles on fundamental political issues. The JD(S) –Congress coalition episode is no less than a warning to the voters of India. If Mahagathbandhan manages to come to power then the Karnataka-like situation might surface at the Centre as well.
