In another despicable incident that shows the declining law and order situation in MP, yesterday, an ex-army man was beaten savagely by alleged Congress party workers in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Harish Patel, an ex-service man, working as a security guard at Municipal Corporation of Jabalpur, is currently admitted in hospital with severe injuries after the assault.

Talking to a media person, Superintendent of Police (SP) Jabalpur, A Singh said, “An ex-serviceman was beaten up by six to seven people. We’re identifying the accused persons and a case has been registered”. But, according to eyewitness, the attackers were supporters of the Congress leader Priyavrat Singh.

Following the incident, a complaint was lodged by the workers of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation in the nearby police station and demanded immediate action. The workers further threatened to go on a strike if no immediate actions are taken in this case.

After visiting the victim, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Rakesh Singh, criticized this incident, “While we were protesting against the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, some Congress workers beat up an ex-serviceman working as a security guard. How long will this continue?”

Lately, since the Kamal Nath government came to power in Madhya Pradesh, attacks on BJP leaders and even on common people have increased significantly. Just, three days after a BJP leader was shot in Mandsaur, earlier another Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was found dead in the Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh and now this brutal attack by alleged Congress workers on an ex-army man. It seems that the newly elected Congress government is on a spree of hunting the political opponents down.

On the issue of murder of BJP workers and leaders, former Madhya Pradesh CM, Shivraj Singh Chouhan too, questioned the state government and indicated that there seems to be a larger conspiracy behind the murder, he also demanded a CBI probe in the murder mysteries of the BJP leaders. He said, “Congress used to talk of change but what change is this? Murders have started here, there was one in Indore, then in Mandsaur where a BJP leader was killed, another BJP leader killed in Barwani. Criminals are fearless today. Law&order completely collapsed.”

Despite the repeated attacks which seem to be well coordinated and a sustained campaign to terrorize the opposition and the people of the state, the media has maintained a stoic silence. The incumbent CM Kamal Nath has not done anything substantial to punish the attackers and to ensure that no more attacks against the BJP leaders take place. The attack on ex-army man by alleged Congress workers shows the kind of chaos prevailing in Madhya Pradesh under Kamal Nath. It seems that the democracy itself is under attack in Madhya Pradesh.
