As per reports, an FIR has been lodged against senior Samajwadi Party leader and MLA, Azam Khan and his wife for allegedly forging the birth certificates of their son, Abdulla Azam Khan. Abdullah has also been booked in a case lodged by BJP convener of small-scale industries cell, Rampur, Akash Saxena. Apart from this, the family has also been accused of keeping two passports. Akash Saxena alleged that there was a conspiracy by the minister to get the birth certificates in order to procure two passports.

The complainant has alleged that Abdullah got a birth certificate issued by the Rampur municipal corporation on June 28, 2012. Both his father, Azam Khan and his mother, Tazeen Fatima had sworn affidavits. In this birth certificate, his place of birth has been shown as Rampur. While in the other birth certificate which was issued by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation on January 21, 2015, Abdullah’s place of birth has been shown as Lucknow. It must be kept in mind that Azam Khan was the urban development minister at the time when the birth certificates were issued.

The first passport was made from Bareilly in which his date of birth was shown as January 1, 1993, and it had validity till the year 2022. However, even after having a passport, the Samajwadi Party leader got another passport issued in the year 2018 with a different date of birth. Saxena has also alleged that the birth certificates were used for works related to the Jauhar University owned by Azam Khan. Abdullah is the chief executive officer of the University.

Ganj police station has registered the FIR under sections 193 (punishment for false evidence), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

BJP leader, Akash Saxena has urged the police officials to take strict action against those accused of forgery, including Abdullah. Inspector of Ganj Police Station, Narendra Tyagi, said that a case has been lodged against Azam Khan, his wife, Tanzim Fatima and his son, Abdullah. The inspector said, “We are looking into the matter and will take action against them if the allegations levelled against them are found true.”

This is not for the first time that Azam Khan has come in limelight for the wrong reasons. The senior Samajwadi Party leader, Azam Khan has been known for making controversial statements every now and then. Last year, the Uttar Pradesh government approved the filing of a charge sheet against him. The charge sheet was filed against Azam Khan for making derogatory remarks against the Indian Army in June last year. The initial complaint against the SP leader had been filed by an individual named Akash Saxena who is the son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader. The complaint had been filed under Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc.) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
