The Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who arrived at in his hometown Jodhpur on Tuesday for the first time after becoming the Chief Minister, responded in a threatening manner against the Jail Bharo movement of the BJP leaders.

According to a Patrika report, Ashok Gehlot allegedly threatened the protesters with indefinite jail time and said that the protests by BJP leaders are unwarranted since his newly formed government has taken many decisions. He went on to add that if put behind bars, it will be extremely difficult for the protesters to come out. Gehlot also allegedly warned the BJP workers to come out on the streets only after proper contemplation. Curiously enough, the mainstream media has not found this ‘declared emergency’ even worthy of reporting. After allegedly issuing this warning, Ashok Gehlot spoke about the decisions taken by the state Congress government in its 45 days of rule.

Currently, there are multiple protests in the state owing to inefficient farm loan waiver and on many other issues. On Monday, the BJP staged demonstrations in all district headquarters of the state against the Congress for failing to fulfill its promise of farm loan waiver. BJP MLA Anita Bhadel said, “The Congress promised loan waiver for farmers within 10 days of government formation but nothing has happened on the ground. The party had also promised Rs 3,500 monthly allowance to unemployed youths and youths too are disappointed.” The BJP accused the Congress of cheating the farmers.

There are many other important issues which are causing problems to the people of the state, but instead of addressing those issues the state CM is more interested in issuing warnings to the protesters who are raising those issues. The Swine flu has also spread in Rajasthan. So far the menace of Swine flu has claimed 72 lives in the state. Two deaths happened on January 27. On Sunday, a total of 69 positive cases of swine flu came to the light.

Last week, former CM Vasundhara Raje attacked the Congress government over its failure to tackle Swine flu menace in the state. She said, “The state is in the grip of swine flu which is spreading at a fast rate, while the Congress government is on a ‘resting’ mode.” According to an Outlook India report, Raje attacked the ruling party over farmers’ loan waiver and claimed that Congress’ claims of farmers’ loan waiver within 10 days of coming to power has proved to be a “gimmick”. Such unprecedented level of mis-governance gives rise to the question – What is state government doing exactly? So the answer is that it is busy in revoking the decisions of the previous government.

Such decisions by the Ashok Gehlot government give an impression that it is totally indulged in petty vendetta politics instead of being engaged in the politics of development and progress and addressing issues concerning the public of Rajasthan.
