Ever since liquor baron, Vijay Mallya absconded from India, the left-liberals used his absence from India as a go-to argument against the BJP and Prime Minister Modi. Every time the liberal brigade was involved in a debate and found itself exposed on any issue under the sun, Mallya’s absence was cited as the failure of the Modi government. From top opposition leaders to little known Congress and other anti-BJP outfit supporters, everyone in the left-liberal cabal used this argument. However, now in a massive blow to the liberal brigade, Mallya is all set to be extradited to India.
Mallya had entered into the unknown forte of airlines business. In eight years of its operation, Kingfisher Airlines never registered a profit. By 2013, the airlines had accumulated a loss of more than 16,000 crores. It is intriguing that even after a record loss; Kingfisher Airlines became the second largest airline in India. The banks continued to give loans, UPA govt continued to extend the all-out support and the good-time was artificially sustained. It is shocking that money was lent to Mallya during the UPA rule despite his miserable track record as far as repayment is concerned. However, since the very essence of being a left-liberal lies in spreading concoctions and false propaganda, the Congress and all other sections of the liberal brigade conveniently disowned Mallya and started blaming PM Modi for it. In fact, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been constantly trying to blame Prime Minister Modi in connection with Mallya’s escape. Using such tactics, the Congress has been trying to brush its own wrongdoings under the carpet.
However, the liberal brigade will no longer be able to corner the Modi government on account of Vijay Mallya’s absence from India, as a court in the UK ordered his extradition to India on Dec 9, 2018. This order came after a nine-month-long trial which ended in September. Mallya had been arrested on an extradition warrant in April 2017. However, he has been on bail ever since his arrest. India has been seeking his extradition on allegations of fraud to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley welcomed this order and also took a dig at the Congress. Jaitley tweeted, “Great Day for India. No one who cheats India will go scot free. The Judgement of UK’s Court is welcome. An offender benefited during the UPA. The NDA brings him to book.”

Congress already seems to have lost balance by the extradition order. The party president Rahul Gandhi tried to undermine the significance of this order and unabashedly went on to say that it is not a “big victory”. Rahul Gandhi reportedly said that it is not a big victory, it is about crony capitalism. But for Rahul Gandhi, it appears that his party extending hefty and imprudent loans to Mallya during the UPA rule was not crony capitalism. It is clear that the Congress and like-minded parties have suffered a huge setback in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Vijay Mallya’s escape from India was an issue that was always raised in a big way. But now the Modi government has once again given a proof of its intent by bringing Mallya to India. While the opposition has lost out on a crucial issue for the general elections to be held next year, the BJP is set to highlight how it is bringing to justice an offender who was greatly benefited during the UPA regime.
